Regional Arts NSW - The peak body for regional arts activity in New South Wales

Help comes 'Quick'ly

15 August 2006

ANOTHER seven skills development opportunities for regional NSW artists and communities have got the green light this quarter, thanks to a grant from the Regional Arts NSW Quick Turnaround Grants program ... but there won't be any more now until 1 October.

The Quick Turnaround Grants Program - or 'Quicks' - offers small grants in a hurry for regional NSW artists, arts organisations and communities to respond to unique arts opportunities that present themselves at short notice. Decisions are made within five days of receipt of application.

Priority is given to artists who are engaged in community programs, so that the benefits of each grant can extends beyond the project itself.

$7,500 is allocated for the program each quarter from the Regional Arts Fund. Funds for the July to September quarter have now all been expended.

And the latest 'Quicks' are ...

$1,000 for Jann Kesby (Mid North Coast) to attend the International Workshop of Ceramic Art in Tokoname in July, to develop skills that will be shared over the new few weeks through Jann's teaching positions in the Mid North Coast and presentations at the Australian Ceramic Conference.

$1,500 for Stephen King (North West) to participate, as one of eight invited artists, in the 6th International Linocut Symposium in Klenova Czech Republic, in October.

$1,500 for South West Arts Inc (South West) to employ a community artist to work with school students in painting 200 pre-cast ceramic cows to be used in a public art display at the launch of the Long Paddock Project in September.

$680 for Adrian Symes (Central West) for professional development in attending the Regional Arts Australia National Conference, The Pacific Edge, in Mackay, Queensland this September.

$460 for Kylie Shead (Central West) for professional development in attending the Regional Arts Australia National Conference, The Pacific Edge, in Mackay, Queensland this September.

$1,500 for the Bongongo Parents and Citizens Committee (Eastern Riverina) for Adjungbilly Art Adventures - a two day creative arts workshop with visiting indigenous artist, Arthur Conlon, on 14 and 15 September. The workshop will involve eight small isolated schools. Activities will include dance, drama, tie-dyeing and Indigenous art.

$925 for Catherine May Lee (West Darling) to participate in the Longlines Masterclass from 11 to 17 September at the invitation of the Creative Director of Varuna Writers Centre in the Blue Mountains. Catherine is one of six invited writers from across Australia.

Congratulations to all the recipients.

Applications for 'Quicks' will re-open on 1 October 2006 for the October to December 2006 quarter.
