'Quicks' for the quick

ANOTHER nine skills development opportunities for regional NSW artists and communities are going ahead thanks to a grant from the Regional Arts NSW Quick Turnaround Grants program.
The Quick Turnaround Grants Program - or 'Quicks' - offers small grants in a hurry for regional NSW artists, arts organisations and communities to respond to unique arts opportunities that present themselves at short notice. Decisions are made within five days of receipt of application.
Priority is given to artists who are engaged in community programs, so that the benefits of each grant can extends beyond the project itself.
$7,500 is allocated for the program each quarter from the Regional Arts Fund and the latest 'Quicks' are ...

$1,135 for Julie Lenane (Mid North Coast) to attend six day education
workshop as part of Grafton Artfest. The workshop will cover skills of sculpture
and design by highly acclaimed tutors. |

$780 for Karen Kerkhoven (Mid North Coast) to participate in workshops
and attend performances by Dumb Type, a group of cross artform artists attending
the Melbourne International Festival. |
|
|
$500 for Liverpool Plains Shire Council (Upper Hunter) to provide cartooning/sketching
sorkshops for young people in Werris Creek, Wallabadah, Willow Tree and Quirindi
with Sydney based cartoonist, Marie Warby. |

|
$750 for Narrabri Chorale (North West) for a community workshop by vocal
quartet 'Idea of North' during their visit to Narrabri. The workshop will involve
the Narrabri Chorale, local students and community members. |
|
|
$400 for Baradine Progress Association (Orana) for a one day workshop
for school band and community members utilising wind, brass and percussion instruments. |
|
|
$1,500 for Melaina Faranda (Northern Rivers) to attend Clarion South
2007, a six week intensive residential workshop for writers in speculative fiction.
The biennial program is tutored by six professional writers/ editors in the genre
and is only offered to 17 invited and selected authors across Australia. |

$453 for Gabrielle Griffin (Northern Rivers) to attend Inspiration in
SA in Adelaide, incorporating a mentorship with dance choreographer, Kat Worth,
and Reckless Dance Company and focussing on dance programs for people with disabilities. |

|
$1,250 for Ken Hutchinson (Central West) to attend the National Limestone
Sculpture Symposium in Mt Gambier, South Australia. The symposium includes masterclasses
by internationally renowned artists. |

|
$750 for Shellharbour City Council (Illawarra Shoalhaven ) for its community cultural development Sleepover Project providing creative activities for children and adults with visiting internationally-renown playwright, Vanessa Badham. The project will focus on skills development and aims to re-engage community members with their local library. |

Applications for 'Quicks' will re-open on 1 January 2007 for the January to March 2007 quarter.
