'Quicks' support for Arts in Health and Wellbeing

The skills of artists working in the health sector and health workers involved in arts projects received a boost this quarter through nine Quick Response grants enabling recipients to attend the recent International Arts and Health Conference in Port Macquarie.

Grants were awarded to six participants from the Mid North Coast, two from the Northern Rivers and one from the Central West, and assisted with attendance at the intensive pre-Conference training for musicians and visual artists as well as presentations by and workshops with world authorities from the UK and USA. Described as ‘inspirational’, conference feedback was overwhelmingly positive and reflected a genuine appreciation of accessible, quality training and the resulting skills and confidence participants are able to apply to regional arts programs. Recipients in the October to December 2009 quarter attending the Conference were:

A Quick Response grant of $1000 was also awarded to Northern Rivers artist Rochelle Summerfield to attend a four-day workshop in Photogravure (digital technology in Printmaking) in Victoria, with nationally awarded photographer and printmaker Silvi Glattauer.

The Quick Response Grants program provides assistance for regional NSW artists, arts organisations and communities to take advantage of professional and project development opportunities that present themselves at short notice. The funds are provided through the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund which is administered by Regional Arts NSW in New South Wales.
