'Quicks' for July to December 2010

Regional Arts NSW is pleased to announce fifteen new projects funded since July through the Quick Response grant program.

The Quick Response Grants once again assisted regional artists and cultural workers to develop invaluable skills for their work in regional communities through engagement in various professional development opportunities. Artforms represented this quarter included music, physical theatre, new media, sculpture, cinema, ceramics and arts-health skills development across the regions of the Mid North Coast, Northern Rivers, Central West and Southern Tablelands.

The Quick Response Grants program provides assistance for regional NSW artists, arts organisations and communities to take advantage of professional and project development opportunities that present themselves at short notice. The funds are provided through the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund which is administered by Regional Arts NSW in New South Wales.

‘Quicks’ grants approved since July were:

$1,500 to Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery (Mid North Coast) to host a lecture and workshop by UK-based Mike White, leading authority in community arts and health programs, during his visit to the area in August.
$190 to Kempsey Silver Strings (Mid North Coast) to conduct a two-hour community workshop with Sydney Conservatorium musicians during their Northern Performance Tour.
$1,493 to assist Kim Staples (Mid North Coast) to attend The Art of Good Health and Well Being International Conference in Melbourne, to develop skills relevant to the coordination and facilitation of an Arts Pilot Program for Alzheimer's sufferers and people with disabilities.
$1,500 to assist two emerging Indigenous artists from the Creative Peoples Collective (Northern Rivers) to attend the Heads Up Indigenous and Social Circus Conference in Sydney to develop training skills in circus, dance and physical theatre in Indigenous communities.
$1,500 to assist Bonnie Carter (Northern Rivers) to attend skills development workshops with international leaders in the new media industry in Los Angeles, to learn production and marketing techniques for new media components of The Franki Show which will be developed with artists in the Northern Rivers.
$1,350 to assist Ken Hutchinson (Central West) to attend the Southern Downs Sculpture Symposium in Queensland as one of 20 'participating artists' who are invited to work and learn alongside internationally acclaimed sculptors.
$536 to assist Jennifer Lloyd (Southern Tablelands) to attend Sturt Winter School's Teapots that Work with Chris Weaver, a five-day skills development workshop in ceramics.
$1,500 to assist Robert Pickles (Southern Tablelands) to attend Dome Lab 2010, an intensive visual arts screen-based and creative technology workshop in Perth, focusing on the new artform of 'fulldome' immersive cinema whereby the audience is immersed in the content.
$1,017 to assist choreographer/dancer/mixed media artist Karen Kerkhoven (Mid North Coast) to attend an intensive two week program in Sydney to work with Christian Ziegler and other choreographers developing skills in multi-media installations and interactive performance.
$1,500 to Sound Crucible (Northern Rivers) to conduct a workshop with acclaimed national and international sound and experimental music artists Room 40 during their visit to the Northern Rivers region. The workshop will cover experimental electronic music and avant pop music using digital media tools and will target local sound and music professionals and students.
$450 to Deva O’Wheel (Northern Rivers) to assist her attendance at three printmaking workshops specifically targeting emerging printmakers by established Australian printmaker and master printer Darren Bryant.
$1,500 to Parkes Film Society (Central West) to assist director Sean Genders and actor John Jarrett to travel to Parkes for a screen studies forum with members of the Parkes Film Society and young actors from the Parkes Musical and Dramatic Society.
$400 to Claire Parks (South West) to attend a photography workshop in Echuca (Victoria) focusing on the practical craft of professional wedding photography.
$1,000 to Interstateplates Touring to assist with the employment of high profile visiting US body and visual artist Hans Haveron to involve the small isolated community of Wytaliba in the creation of a community mural.
$1500 to Murray Arts (Albury Wodonga) for a half day workshop for students at Holbrook and Mullengandra Public Schools with visiting Melbourne-based a cappella group Suade.
