Arts and culture in the Central Orana region will soon
be enjoying a higher profile thanks to Orana Arts' newly
appointed Projects & Publicity Officer, Kim Goldsmith
(pictured, left).

Over the next five months, Ms Goldsmith will be working to promote
the arts widely - both within the Orana region and beyond - through
her contacts in the media, the community, regional industry and
arts networks. The role will also involve providing media training
and advice to community arts organisations.
The other part of the role will see Ms Goldsmith working closely
with the Coolah, Coonabarabran, Gilgandra, Narromine and Dubbo communities
to assess their cultural needs and determine the best way to address
them. With an emphasis on finding across-community opportunities,
Ms Goldsmith will assist groups to access information, resources
and funding to develop community arts projects.
Ms Goldsmith comes to the new position with sixteen years experience
in rural and regional media. Over the past eight years she has been
a regional media / community relations consultant, working in the
areas of rural training, natural resource management, regional development.
More recently she has been the arts and rural editor of a weekly
newspaper.
"We're thrilled to have Kim coming on board to assist in the
development of the Orana Arts region," said Regional Arts Development
Officer, Nina O'Brien.
"Orana Arts is a new part of the regional arts network in
NSW, and in its initial formation it will rely on Kim and me working
closely with Regional Arts NSW and the contributing local councils
to set up management systems and develop the new structure for the
program."
"The Projects and Publicity position will require an innovative
and flexible approach to establish publicity, promotions and projects
for arts development as well as developing and assisting with projects
that provide training, employment and marketing opportunities for
artists and communities from culturally and linguistically diverse
backgrounds," said Ms O'Brien.
Ms Goldsmith added that she is excited by the potential of role.
"The development of the region's first cultural directory will
put us in a very strong position to identify where the gaps and
opportunities lie," she said. "This will be invaluable
to the development of the arts in the Orana region and our ability
to 'cash in' on opportunities."
"I am also looking forward to meeting and working with the
many dedicated, volunteer-based community groups that dominate the
cultural sector of the region," she said.
