RADOS TO SERVE ON TOP NSW ARTS ADVISORY COMMITTEES
RADOs Ruth Neave (Upper Hunter), Rod Ainsworth (Far West) and Richard Holloway (Mid North Coast) have been appointed to some of the State's top arts advisory positions by the Premier and Minister for the Arts, Mr Bob Carr. Ruth Neave will be serving on the capital assistance committee, Rod Ainsworth joins the museums committee and Richard Holloway has been reappointed to the community cultural development committee of the NSW Arts Advisory Council, which also includes visual arts and crafts, theatre, dance, and literature and history committees. Committee members consider the hundreds of grant applications that are received each year by the NSW Ministry for the Arts and make recommendations to the Minister where funding should be allocated. Congratulations to all three RADOs.

WHO IS THE NEW RADO FOR THE CENTRAL ORANA?
The search is on for the Regional Arts Development Officer for the new Central Orana region. With a base in Gilgandra, the new RADO will service the Coolah, Coonabarabran, Dubbo, Gilgandra and Narromine local government areas. He or she will establish the Regional Arts Board, set up the office, develop a strategic plan and deliver an arts program for the new region. REGIONAL ARTS FUND LOGOS NOW ONLINE
For all those Regional Arts Fund (RAF) recipients who've been looking for a place to download the right Regional Arts Fund logo for their promotions, catalogues, invitations, reports etc, everything you need is now online at www.regionalartsnsw.com.au/grants/raf-logos.html. COOMA GALLERY SECURES FUNDS FOR NEW EXHIBITION WING
Congratulations to Cooma's Raglan Gallery who recently received another $40,000 in State Government assistance under the Premier's Regional Capital Fund to fast-track the construction of a new exhibition wing to be ready for use by mid 2004. At least $40,000 had already been raised through local fund raising and donations, signifying a strong vote of confidence in the future of the gallery by the Cooma community.

NSW REGIONAL RECIPIENTS OF OZCO THEATRE BOARD GRANTS
The Australia Council for the Arts has just announced that 41 artists and organisations from around Australia to receive funding from the Theatre Board totalling $1,113,640 this year. Several regional NSW artists and organisations have received grants for their projects:

  • Riggerous - Albury $35,100
    Riggerous will create a site specific aerial based performance, inspired by Australia's ancient wildlife and using flying foxes and wall rigging to allow complete freedom for the acrobats to traverse the city as if it were a natural habitat.
  • The Flying Fruit Fly Circus - Albury $24,89
    The Flying Fruit Fly Circus will tour The Gift to the Vancouver Island Festival for Young Audiences in British Columbia and the Vancouver Int'l Children's Festival in Vancouver, May-June 2003.
  • A Nose of Her Own Mollymook $33,400
    Sue Broadway and Fleur Evans from the Australian Women's Clown Project will draw on elements of vaudeville and popular performance to develop The Baggage Carousel. Three professional women clowns will work with four members of Wollongong Women's Circus. Touring the south east of NSW, October 2003.
  • Workers Cultural Action Committee Inc Newcastle West $22,100
    David Brown's new play Eating ice-cream with your eyes closed explores the issues facing marginalised males living in rural and regional areas. Performances in Newcastle and surrounding regional centres in May 2003.
  • Northern Rivers Performing Arts Inc Lismore $15,750
    Playwright Janis Balodis will write The Flood, a cross artform work which will include a simulated flood and will imaginatively explore people's reactions to the arrival and aftermath of a flood using contemporary musictheatre. Performances in Lismore, December 2003.

There are a limited number of places remaining for people wishing to enrol in the new Online Diploma in community cultural development offered by CCD NSW. The Diploma covers subject areas including: Identifying the needs of a Community; Marketing and Gaining funding for ccd projects; Networking with a community; and Managing ccd projects using art form activities. REGIONAL ARTS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER (Re-advertised position)
Central Orana Region, $45,000 p.a. + car
A unique opportunity for an energetic and community minded individual to be the ground-breaker for a new arts development region comprising five Local Government areas of Coolah, Coonabarabran, Dubbo, Gilgandra, and Narromine. Working with the Steering Committee, the position will establish a new Regional Arts Board, an office and strategic plan for the Board, and develop a regional arts program in consultation with local stakeholders. Applicants must demonstrate sound understanding of the issues, practices and processes of regional arts development and Local Government and possess strong planning, consultation, administration (including funding) and project development skills. NRMA INSURANCE COMMUNITY HELP GRANTS
This is an NRMA staff initiated grants program offering $400,000 to local communities around Australia. Applications will be accepted for initiatives and programs that reduce risk and increase safety in the community, specifically in the areas of emergency rescue services, injury prevention and crime prevention. OZCO ATSIAB INTERNATIONALRESIDENCIES - WRITING / NEW MEDIA
Two residencies for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists - one, for an author/writer to participate in an international Literature residency from 21 August to 21 October at Art Omi, Hudson River Valley, USA and the other for a New Media Residence from 20 October to 5 December at the Banff Centre, Alberta Canada. Submissions now open for the 14th International Electronic Art Festival, at Pompéia from 22 September to 19 October 2003. Electronic art productions (video, CD-ROM, DVD and Web) are invited from Portuguese-speaking artists or those originating from the "southern circuit": Africa, the Caribbean, Central America, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Oceania and South-east Asia. 4 MINUTE WONDERS
The ABC's Radio Triple J, Fly TV, New Media and the South Australia Film Corporation are looking for twelve innovative individuals or teams to create a multi-platform digital music video clip for one of Triple J's Unearthed finalists. PLAYBOX ASIALINK PLAYWRITING COMPETITION
The national biennial Asialink Playwriting Competition was created to encourage Australian playwrights to draw on the themes and styles, history and politics, theatre and languages of our geographic region as a means to invigorate theatre and to more truly reflect Australia's place in the world. Submissions must be engaged in the exploration of Australia's place in the Asia-Pacific region. THE COUNTRY ENERGY $35,000 ART PRIZE FOR LANDSCAPE PAINTING
As part of its program to support regional artists, and in addition to its sponsorship of the New England Regional Arts Museum, Country Energy invites entries for this generous prize for a landscape painting. Judges: Richard Goodwin, Ann Thomson, Betty Churcher and Joe Eisenberg. Entries by 35mm slide, including a $30 handling fee. Paintings to be no more than 2.6 square metres in total area. BRASS COMPETITION AWARDS
The 2nd Biennial Arthur Gullidge Brass Composition award for Australian and New Zealand composers is an initiative of Australian brass and wind band music publisher 'Muso's Media'.

AUSTRALASIAN COMPUTER MUSIC ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE 2003

Call for works that combine either computers, recorded media and/or live performance with any combination of electronic and acoustic elements for the 2003 'Converging technologies' conference to be held in July. 'Converging technologies' is aimed at presenting research and new works that focus on the convergence of audio, visual and mechanical technologies. ARCUS ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM - JAPAN
The ARCUS Project is an artist-in-residence program organized by the Ibaraki Prefectural Government in Japan. Since its inception in 1995, 42 artists from 15 countries have been invited to participate and engage in this cultural exchange, encompassing both their creative work and research. The project offers young and mid-career visual artists the chance to develop their artistic concepts and skills and to experience cultural exchange at professional level and community level. The residency is in Moriya City, Japan (pop: 50,000) near the acclaimed Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and University of Tsukuba. The artists are provided with a studio and the program is complemented by a communication program, which focuses on bringing artists to the community through workshops in school classrooms and lectures. URBAN THEATRE PROJECTS SHORT + SHARP II
Urban Theatre Projects in Bankstown is calling for short performance work proposals from emerging and established artists, individuals and groups. Short and Sharp II is a season of new works set to take place in July. Proposals must be no longer than a page and briefly describe: what you intend to do; why you want to do it; and who is going to perform it. Submissions of papers sought on the theme, 'Gender is dead?'. Papers may include discussions on body and gender, education and gender, Indigenous issues, gender belief and ethnicity, gendered places, politics of gender and representations of gender. AUSTRALIAN DANCE WEEK
Australian Dance Week, 10-18 May 2003, is aimed at raising the profile of dance in Australia by focusing on the values, importance and cultural contributions made by dance to the Australian community. MASTERCLASSES IN WRITING FOR PERFORMANCE

The Illawarra Performance Writers' Group presents a Masterclass on writing for performance for anyone interested in writing for performance, be they a beginner or a more experienced writer. The class will cover the basics of characterisation and language in drama through hands-on exercises and examination of established texts. COMMUNITIES IN CONTROL: GIVING VOICE - AND SUPPORT- TO GRASSROOTS COMMUNITY AND NON- PROFIT GROUPS

A world first conference to explore a range of issues associated with developing stronger and more viable communities, with particular emphasis on the ways in which communities themselves can take control of decision making. ARTS TORQUE QAC STATE CONFERENCE (QLD)

The Queensland Arts Council's biennial state conference is designed specifically for arts workers, volunteers, museums, galleries and cultural heritage sectors in regional Queensland. Sessions include arts funding, partnering with local government, youth arts, web marketing, events management, sponsorship and community renewal. Also on show will be best practice examples and pilot projects for the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) to help participants think more strategically and across regions about how to access RADF funds. HENRY LAWSON FESTIVAL OF ARTS

The Henry Lawson Festival of Arts celebrates Grenfell's famous son, Henry Lawson, who was born on the goldfields in 1867.
