LIVING IN HARMONY COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM
Grants from $5,000 to $50,000 to promote community harmony at the local level. Part of the Commonwealth Government's New Agenda for Multicultural Australia, the program assists community organisations to promote community harmony and address issues of racism in the community. Projects should address specific issues. Priority areas are school/education, young people, law/justice, media, sport and workplaces. Projects in rural and/or remote Australia particularly welcome. 2002 WOMEN'S GRANTS PROGRAM
Funding available for projects that are non-recurrent, will be completed in twelve months and
* contribute to building strong and diverse communities
* enable women to enjoy the benefits of participation and
* develop local solutions to identified local needs.
Small grants of up to $30,000 are available for innovative local community projects and large grants of up to $100,000 are available for projects that have a regional or statewide focus. VINCENT FAIRFAX FELLOWSHIP
The Vincent Fairfax Fellowship is a program of St James Ethics Centre which aims to support and further the development of Australians who factor the ethical dimension into their leadership practice. As a Vincent Fairfax Fellow you will be challenged intellectually, emotionally, physically and spiritually: exploring aspects of your own integrity. Airfares, accommodation and basic insurance are covered whilst on program activities, which are staggered over an 18 month period. In all, Fellows will be away from home for 10 weeks. OZCO VISUAL ARTS & CRAFT VAC EMERITUS AWARD & MEDAL $40,000
The purpose of this award is to acknowledge the achievements of eminent living visual artists or craftspeople over the age of 60 who have made outstanding and lifelong contributions to visual arts and craft in Australia. Artists (over 60 years old) working in any area of practice relevant to the Visual Arts/Craft Board may be nominated for the award. Artists may not nominate themselves. The award is made to a visual artist or craftsperson whose contribution to the arts merits greater public recognition and whose life and work continues to inspire Australians. SHELL ECONOMIST ESSAY COMPETITION
"How much freedom should we trade for our security?" is the topic for an essay of up to 2,00 words. First prize is $20,000, two 2nd prizes of $10,000 and five 3rd prizes of $5,000. KALEIDOSCOPE - METRO SCREEN FESTIVAL
Call for entries in this short video/film festival - maximum length 8 minutes. The festival will feature 50 independent films over five nights. Pre-screenings will be held from September 30 to October 3 at MetroScreen in Sydney and a screening of the top ten and an awards presentation will be held on October 4 at the Chauvel Cinema in Sydney. THE WOOLLAHRA SCULPTURE PRIZE
A new national award for an original, freestanding small sculpture, 80cm or smaller. The Woollahra Sculpture Prize is an acquisitive award of $10,000. The Special Commendation is a non-acquisitive award of $2,000 and the Viewers' Choice is a non acquisitive award of $1,000. Judging will be in two rounds, with the first round by slide/photograph or proposal closing for entries 20 August. Each artist may enter up to two original works, which must have been designed or completed within two years prior to October 2002. The award will be judged by multi-award winning architect Romaldo Giurgola and senior Australian sculptor May Barrie. Selected finalists will be exhibited at historic Redleaf in October. THE 47TH WALKLEY AWARDS
The Walkley Foundation is now calling for entries for the 2002 Walkley Awards, Australia's most prestigious journalism awards. Now celebrating it's 47th year of recognising excellence, the Gold Walkley is considered the pinnacle of Australian journalistic achievement. Walkley judges expect to scrutinise an estimated 1000 entries from journalists across the country. For more information go to www.walkleys.com.

BOROONDARA LITERARY AWARDS
The Boroondara Literary Awards are an annual event offering up to $7,000 in prize money to fresh new writers across Australia. The 2002 Awards are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Balywn, Leader Community Newspapers and the City of Boroondara. The Open Short Story Award is open to writers of any age across Australia. First place is $2,000, second $500 and third place $250. All stories must be between 2000 and 3000 words in length and each entry includes a fee $6.60. STRATHFIELD ECO ART PRIZE
As part of its commitment to the development of a sustainable community and the development of the visual arts in Australia, Strathfield Council is offering the inaugural Strathfield Eco Art Prize. Entries are open for paintings which respond to the environment aesthetically, scientifically, socially, spiritually or politically. The subject and style of the work are entirely open to the artist. There are two prizes:
* Open: one prize of $10 000
* Youth (under 25 in October 2002): One prize of $5000 (sponsored by Western Cereal Industries)

SUBMISSION WRITING WORKSHOP
25 July, Kempsey
Arts Mid North Coast is running a grant writing workshop to assist both individuals and community groups in increasing their chances of gaining funding. To be held at Macleay Valley Community Care (Cnr Forth & Yalewood Street, Kempsey), the cost for volunteers, seniors and students is $5.50 or for paid employees and funded organizations $11.00. THE WALK OF LIFE, MOVEMENT WORKSHOP
26-28 July, Currarong
Helen Poynor specialises in working within natural environments. Train with Ann Halprin followed by non-stylised movement practice with Suprato Suryodarmo in Java. This three-day movement workshop for women will take place in the village of Currarong on the coast near Nowra and Jervis Bay. There are only 10 places available. Price: $265/$225. AUSTRALIAN CHOREOGRAPHIC CENTRE - PROPOSALS FOR 2003 AND 2004
Proposals are invited from choreographers for 2003 and 2004. The Centre provides opportunities for choreographers to develop their practice through research and development. Open to Australians seeking to develop choreographers with an emerging practice; choreographers with a continuing or evolving practice; and specific choreographic practices, including new media, dance on film, youth practice, performance improvisation and contemporary arts practice. MAN FROM SNOWY RIVER SCULPTURE PROJECT
The Community of Cooryong wishes to make very visitor aware of its link to the Man from Snow River story and one element of this is the commissioning of an iconic sculpture that creatively celebrates the man and the story. The artist will be required to consult with the Statue Committee in designing and fabricating the sculpture. SUBMISSIONS SOUGHT FOR A MULTICULTURAL CABARET
The celebrate the diversity of Australia's ethnic literary culture, the NSW Writers' Centre will present a special event as part of its Carnivale Literary Festival in October. Authors from a non-English speaking background are invited to submit their material on the subject of being Australian and living in Australia. Poetry, short scenes, short stories, monologues, songs and aphorisms with a performance time of up to about 10-15 minutes. Selected works will be paid a small fee. Writers are not expected to perform their work unless they are professional performers. Theatre professional Markus Weber will make the selections and direct the show.
