NEW RADO FOR ALBURY WODONGA REGION
Chris Pidd, former RADO for the South West region, and co-ordinator of the Youth Expo at Groundswell: the 2002 Regional Arts Australia National Conference in October, has accepted the position of RADO for the Regional Arts Board Albury Wodonga. Chris replaces current RADO Althea Bannister and will be commencing in Albury Wodonga on 1 September. Recruitment is under way for a new RADO for South West Arts (see this e-Bulletin under Employment).

ROD AINSWORTH NEW RADO FOR OUTBACK ARTS
Outback Arts has just announced that Rod Ainsworth has accepted the position of Regional Arts Development Officer for the Far West region. Rod has a strong background in the performing arts in a variety of roles in research, writing, directing, production and management, as well as many years experience as a teacher. Rod will be commencing in Coonamble on 30 September.

NEW EXECUTIVE OFFICER FOR REGIONAL ARTS AUSTRALIA
The new Executive Officer for Regional Arts Australia is Ruth Smiles. Based in South Australia, Ruth has extensive experience in the arts, most recently as Executive Officer to the South Australian Recreation and Arts Industry Training Advisory Board. Ruth brings to Regional Arts Australia a wealth of experience in arts management and in arts industry training, particularly the development of industry standards and education. Ruth will be working part-time from Thursday 8 August and full time from Monday 2 September 2002, based at Country Arts SA's Port Adelaide offices at 1 McLaren Parade Port Adelaide SA 5015 Tel 08 8444 0400. General purpose grants are available for eligible environmental and heritage organisations for the 2002-2003 financial year to assist with administrative costs (as distinct from project or campaign costs: salaries and salary on-cost for executive and administrative staff and other office expenses.) APEC EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION GRANTS
The APEC Educational Foundation is a non-governmental, non-profit institution established to support APEC endeavors towards shared prosperity and community building by promoting education and human resources development in the Asia-Pacific region. Institutions and non-profit organisations actively engaged in education and human resources development activities are invited to submit grant proposals which are consistent with the mission of the Foundation. Grants between US$100,000 and US$300,000 may be applied for depending on quality of project. All proposals must the Award Criteria as set out in the Guidelines. THE 2002 MARTEN BEQUEST TRAVELLING SCHOLARSHIP
Six travelling scholarships will be awarded in 2002 to scholars of outstanding ability and promise aged between 21 and 35 in one or more of the following categories: painting, singing, instrumental music, prose, poetry and acting. Each scholarship is valued at $18,000, paid in two years. Applicants must be born in Australia. THE 2002 JOHN COPES PRIZE FOR REPRESENTATIONAL ART
Berrima District Art Society is offering a $4,000 prize for a work in a 'free yet representational style' in any medium, with no constraints other than size. Entrants may submit up to two works, not previously shown and completed within the past twelve months. All works must be framed. The judge is Dr Sasha Grishin, Head of Art Theory, ANU. 26TH ANNUAL BUNDABERG ARTS FESTIVAL
This year the Festival will include workshops, concerts, poetry recitals a multicultural food and wine festival as well as an art competition with more than $17,500 in cash prizes. Also introducing a new $1,500 'Open' art prize this year. There are 29 sections, including categories such as painting, sculpture, writing, photography and textiles. The event is to be held 5-13 October and the art exhibition to be on show at the Bundaberg Civic Centre and will be curated by Rachael Kent, Senior Curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney. SHORT TRIPS @ THE MELBOURNE FILM FRINGE FESTIVAL
Short Trips has joined forces with the Melbourne Fringe Festival to bring you Short Trips @ The Melbourne Fringe Festival "Best Film Award 2002". Forty five independent films will be screened over four nights from September 29 - October 16 at the North Melbourne Town Hall in Melbourne. FLICKERFEST 2003 SHORT FILM FESTIVAL & COMPETITION
Entries are open for the international short film festival Flickerfest 2003, which will be held at Bondi Pavilion next January. The festival has a main competition and competitions for Australian shorts and documentaries. BANNOL CONSERVATION ART PRIZE
A $3,000 prize to encourage community awareness and concern for the natural enviroment. Awarded to the painting (in any medium) or photograph that best celebrates Australia's unique natural heritage. MANDORLA ART AWARD
A $10,000 national acquisitive award for two- or three-dimensional artworks on a religious theme. The major prize is an Italian studio residency or cash, plus three non-acquisitive awards of $500. NATIONAL SCULPTURE PRIZE
The $50,000 National Sculpture Prize and Exhibition 2003 at the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) is open to artists working across all forms of sculpture, including installation and works in new media. Site-specific or outdoor works are not eligible. All artists selected to participate in the exhibition will receive an honorarium of $2,500 and the Macquarie Bank People's Choice Award of $4,000 will also be granted to the most popular piece on show. Judges include Dr Brian Kennedy, Director, National Gallery of Australia; Julian Beaumont, Chairman, Macquarie Bank Art Committee; Professor Ian Howard, artist and Dean of the University of New South Wales' College of Fine Arts; and Ron Robertson-Swann, OAM, sculptor and painter. INDIGENOUS FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Indigenous Fellowship Program aims to give indigenous women and men the opportunity to gain knowledge in the field of international human rights. In particular to assist their organisations and communities in protecting and promoting the human rights of their people. TRIPLE J'S UNEARTHED COMPETITION - ACT
If you're in the ACT and you're makin' music, then it's time to be Unearthed. Since 1995, triple j's Unearthed has gone to 43 regions around Australia and unearthed 82 bands. Providing young bands and musicians living in regional and city areas of Australia with a means to have their talents professionally recorded and played on triple j. Unearthed is also about getting all sorts of music associations involved to discover, develop and promote new Australian talent … and it's about you listening to great new music from anywhere from Broome to Merimbula, and being able to explore the community where each artist has come from. QUEUE HERE GROUP EXHIBITION
Works on the theme of queueing are sought for a group exhibition at Canberra Contemporary Art Space in November/December this year. Queue Here will explore the idea of queuing in contemporary culture. The currency of this issue, specifically in connection with refugee issues in western nations and the increasing global transitoriness of populations, has impacted the way we conceptualise notions of place and home. UNPUBLISHED CONTEMPORARY PERFORMANCE SCRIPTS
The Australian Script Centre is calling for unpublished contemporary performance scripts for promotion in 2002/3. The Centre is the only national organisation that promotes and provides access to unpublished Australian performance writing for repeat productions or study. NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DRAMATIC ART (NIDA)
Applications are now available for admission to 2003 full time courses. Although probably best known for its acting course, NIDA also offers courses in design, stage management, event management, lighting, sound, costume making, wardrobe management, scenery construction, properties and special effects. Entry to all NIDA courses is by audition or interview, conducted in every capital city throughout the country during November each year. SEEKING NIMBUS ILLUMINOUS CREATIONS OF CONTEMPORARY VISUAL ART
Following on from the successful exhibition 'Gazing Out' at First Draft Gallery in Sydney, Accessible Arts and Casula Powerhouse have teamed up to research and locate artists for the exhibition 'Seeking Nimbus' to be held at Casula in November 2002. Seeking visual artists who identify as persons with a disability, who are able to forward images/slides of their work, a bio and exhibition history, to assist in the initial selection of artists to be involved. MELBOURNE FASHION FESTIVAL
Invitation to participate in arts program designed to link fashion with various artforms. The festival is seeking artists to present works through various media that express a link between fashion and art. Focus for the 2003 program is the idea of "excess". YOUTH ARTS PROJECT OFFICER - SOUTH WEST ARTS
In collaboration with the Regional Arts Development Officers in Outback NSW the person will develop the NSW 2002 YOTO Youth Arts Expo. The expo will travel to four major centres Oct -Dec culminating at the Opera House Sydney. The person for this position will ideally have a background in youth arts and have an understanding of the issues relating to the arts in outback communities.
