NEW RICO FOR MID NORTH COAST
Cheryl Robinson has been appointed as the new Regional Indigenous Cultural Officer for Arts Mid North Coast. She replaces Fay Nelson who departs to take up a position with the Indigenous Unit of the NSW Department for Women. Cheryl has a background in community cultural development and working for local government authorities. She will be relocating the RICO office from Wauchope to Kempsey. GROUNDSWELL PAPERS NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE
Proceedings from Groundswell, the 2002 Regional Arts Australia National Conference are going online. ARTS UPPER HUNTER REGIONAL ARTS BOARD SEEKS COMMUNITY REPS
Are you interested in the cultural life of the Upper Hunter? Do you live in Merriwa, Murrurundi, Muswellbrook or Scone Shire? Arts Upper Hunter is calling for community representatives to join the Upper Hunter Regional Arts Board, which brings together community members and council representatives to enhance the benefits of arts and cultural development in the region.
Community representatives need a commitment to the region's cultural development and a willingness to attend quarterly meetings.

BUNKER CARTOON GALLERY WINS AWARDS
The Bunker Cartoon Gallery's Bunka in the Bunker - Japan Culture Day 2001 - has been awarded the Australian Sister City Award. Following the success of Japan Culture Day 2001 the Coffs Harbour branch of the Australia Japan Society nominated the day for a National Sister City Award which was judged in Bendigo. The Bunker Cartoon Gallery has also been awarded an Excellence in Tourism Award in the category of heritage and Culture by NSW Tourism.

2003 HILL END ARTIST IN RESIDENCY PROGRAM
The Hill End Artists in residence program has been successfully run as a collaborative project between Bathurst Regional Gallery, NSW National Parks and Wildlife service and curator Gavin Wilson since 1999. 2003 NRMA CRIMESAFE GRANTS PROGRAM
NRMA Insurance is committed to working with local communities on crime prevention projects and on tackling the social factors that underpin involvement in crime. Under the 2003 CrimeSafe Grants Program, non profit, community based organisations can apply for a one-off grant of between $500 - $5,000 for projects that support crime prevention initiatives. CHURCHILL FELLOWSHIP
The Churchill Trust aims to perpetuate and honour the memory of Sir Winston Churchill by the award of Travelling Fellowships. A Churchill Fellowship is the provision of financial support to enable ordinary Australians from all walks of life to undertake a period of overseas study, or an investigative project, that cannot be readily undertaken in Australia. There are no prescribed qualifications, academic or otherwise, for the award of most Churchill Fellowships. Merit is the primary test, whether based on past achievements or demonstrated ability for future achievement in any walk of life. Benefit to Australia is a significant factor. Applications may not be lodged until on or after 1 January 2003 and they must be lodged by 28 February 2003. Competitions, Awards + Prizes

THE HOUSE OF TOMMORROW COMMISSIONS
In 2003 Experimenta will create a completely interactive House of Tomorrow in the centre of Melbourne. What futuristic interactive household appliances, furniture and accoutrements can you imagine? Filmmakers, animators and artists are called to create 25-second television advertisements for a possible, or perhaps impossible, item that could be found in the 'House of Tomorrow'. Limited budgets of up to $2000 are available for successful proposals. Experimenta is also offering a range of commissions for interactive installations to be displayed in the House of Tomorrow, and will be providing a cash component and in-kind support for the commissioned projects.

TACTILE ART 2003 - EXHIBITION AND ROYAL BLIND SOCIETY AWARD
A biennial exhibition resulting from an innovative collaboration between Object - Australian Centre for Craft and Design and the Royal Blind Society. Exhibiting artists will be encouraged to focus on the sensorial, utilising form and surface textures to create objects that invite audiences to touch.
Tactile Art 2003 will present the work of 8-10 artists selected as finalists from the applications received. The exhibition aims to involve established and emerging artists (or designers) from around the country. INTERPRET YOUR POSTCODE FOR ABC ONLINE
The ABC is calling for digital imagery to publish online at abc.net.au/arts/digital. Your work will also be profiled in a gallery section on the Post website. Your digital artwork (200 x 200 pixels 72dpi, jpeg or gifi) must be based on the theme POST, which can be interpreted as broadly as you wish (but the image must not contain any material that is libellous, defamatory, obscene, abusive or violates any law governing vilification, harassment, copyright and intellectual property, contempt or privacy.) Send you work in by email with the image attached to arts@your.abc.net.au with the words The PostCode Digital Art gallery wall project as the subject heading. Make sure the email includes your contact details, name, age and the title and a description of the artwork. The artwork must be entered by the person who created the original artwork. Entries shall become the property of the ABC and the ABC shall have the right to use and publish the entry on the ABC Arts and Culture gateway, flynet and the Post websites.

INTERPLAY - WORLD'S LARGEST FESTIVAL OF YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS
7-20 July 2003
Twenty Young Australian playwrights aged 18 - 25 years will be selected to attend the World Interplay 2003 Festival in Townsville, Queensland, from 7 to 20 July 2003. Applicants need not have professional experience but should have at least been through the process of writing a play, and know the ropes well enough to have a sample script available. Writers attending the festival will take part in workshops and forum discussions, and will receive individual dramaturgical feedback from leading professionals. They will also benefit from play readings and public performances, and experience contact with other young artists from all over the world. Those selected will be required to pay $300 registration but that includes all meals, accommodation, hospitality programs, tuition and administration and local travel for the duration of the festival. AUSTRALIAN FESTIVAL PLANNER/CALENDAR
The 7th 2003 Australian Festival Guide is an A2 poster which will be out in early December. It contains over 150 festivals and events, including contact details for artists and festival goers, a description of the festival, genres, application deadlines etc. The Guide cost $10 plus postage and can be ordered through the 7th dimension website. NEW SBS WEBSITE FOR AUSTRALIAN ZINEMAKERS
Original works by Australian zinemakers gets a new-media design treatment in Cornerfold, an SBS website launching in December. Contributors to the first issue include Vanessa Berry, Natasha Cho, Mandy Ord, and Gregory Mackay. Producers are looking for submissions to the two Cornerfold weblogs: 'pixelstories' and 'like it is'. They are after nuggetty little stories (max 500 words) as well as small visual works (but no poetry please). Entries must be on the theme of the first issue: childhood games. Visual works can be comics, photo-essays, Flash animations or Quicktime movies but if you are considering a visual work, email Cornerfold for specifications on file sizes and formats before submitting. ANPC PLAYWRITING COURSE BY CORRESPONDENCE

The Australian National Playwrights' Centre is delighted to offer its members a first: a playwriting course by correspondence, taught by Timothy Daly. Based on the successful long-running courses in Sydney, this unique tape-and-individual-feedback course has been designed to assist writers outside the Sydney metropolitan area. Participants receive a fortnightly series of audio tapes, detailed notes and writing exercises personally read and responded to by Timothy. Feedback sessions may be arranged by post or email. Regional Funding Grants Register (SA)
The Regional Funding and Grants Register web site is an initiative of the Local Government Association of South Australia Research and Development Scheme, the Business Centre, the Office of Regional Development and the South Australian Council of Social Services. In addition to information about current grants, the site contains a section on how to prepare a grant application.
