NEW FEDERAL MINISTER
FOR THE ARTS
Former Attorney-General Daryl Williams has become the new Minister for
Communications, Information Technology and the Arts in the recent Cabinet
shake-up. Williams' replaces retiring Senator, Richard Alston.
NEW REGIONAL CULTURAL
ALLIANCE TO BE LAUNCHED AT ENVIRONMENT SUMMIT
22-26 October, Broken Hill
Australia's Regional Cultural Alliance will be formally launched at the
15th National Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ)
conference in Broken Hill later this month. The Alliance is a joint venture
of six peak cultural organisations: The Australia Council of National
Trusts, Museums Australia, Regional Arts Australia, the Australian Library
and Information Association, the Australia Institute of Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) and the Federation of Australian
Historical Societies. The Regional Cultural Alliance will work to secure
regional Australia's future by focussing on its cultural assets. The EIANZ
Outback Summit will be focused on the social and cultural environment

DEVELOPMENT OFFICER FOR THE EASTERN RIVERINA
Lucinda Halbert is the new Regional Arts Development Officer (RADO)
for the Eastern Riverina Arts Program (ERAP), based in Wagga Wagga. Lucinda
replaces Monica Velins who left recently after seven years service as

GROUPS IN REGIONAL NSW TO BENEFIT FROM TAX INCENTIVES
An additional 38 cultural organisations will directly benefit from tax
incentives after being appointed to the Register of Cultural Organisations
(ROCO), it was announced recently by the Minister for the Arts and Sport,
Senator Rod Kemp. Inclusion on ROCO makes it possible for cultural organisations
to offer donors a tax deduction for donations to a variety of cultural
activities. Regional NSW groups new to the register include: the Bellingen
Community Arts Council Inc, the Coffs Harbour Regional Conservatorium,
the Port Macquarie Hastings Band and Community Cultural Development NSW.
ROCO is administered by the Department of Communications, Information
Technology and the Arts and operates under subdivision 30-B of the Income

BLOSSOMING ART
AT 'IN SITE OUT'
2-16 November, Orange
With over 40 expressions of interest now received from regional artists,
'In Site Out,' Orange's inaugural temporary and ephemeral art event/exhibition
in the Botanical Gardens, is set to blossom. The event coincides with
the Orange Garden and Outdoor Expo, which attracts over 5,000 people to
the Gardens. "'In Site Out' is a wonderful opportunity for artists
to stretch their artistic boundaries and reach completely new audiences,"
says Arts OutWest RADO, Hannah Semler, "In addition to curated exhibits
there will be an active program of workshops and demonstrations, and anyone

WITH LEADING COMPOSER
19 October, Albury Regional Art Gallery
A television and film soundtrack composer who also founded the Port Fairy
Spring Music Festival is the first composer featured at Albury's Murray
Conservatorium for this year's 'Classic on Precinct' recitals. Michael
Easton, who was born in England and moved to Australia in the early eighties,
will workshop some of his featured compositions with Conservatorium staff
who will the perform for the public. Easton's film score credits include
Split, The Mao Game and Waiting in the Reeds, and his music at the recital
will include the Cocktail Suite and a setting of Edward Lear's The Owl

Fly Circus, tells the life story of a world famous Aboriginal circus performer

An exhibition tracing Sir Donald¹s cricket career through a collection
of inspirational artworks. Featuring artwork by renowned Melbourne artist
and movie poster designer Brian Clinton the works trace the major cricketing
achievements of Don Bradman from his earliest days in Bowral till his
triumphant retirement in 1949 as the victorious Test captain of The Invincibles.

proposals to create an Ear Clip for ABC Radio's 'Passing Through' project.

EVALUATION PROPOSALS
SOUGHT FOR ON TRACK LEADERSHIP PROJECT
The Foundation for Young Australians is seeking proposals from experienced
evaluators to undertake evaluation of the On Track Leadership Project.
On Track is an exciting new project funded by the Australian Government's
Department of Family and Community Services. Twenty five organisations
have received funding to facilitate a leadership project with groups of
young people, culminating with the delivery of a community project. Evaluation
of this initiative will include specifically targeting 8 of the communities
in depth, with further data being collected form the other 17 communities.

1860s SHEEP STATION
SOUGHT FOR TV SERIES
The UK based Wall to Wall Television Co. has made several living history
programs based on heritage houses in both the UK and the USA - Pioneer
House, Edwardian Country House and the 1940s House. Wall to Wall is now
developing a six part one-hour series for ABC TV called Squatter House.
The house would need to be available for more than 4 months; location
is not restricted however the Hay/Riverina area has been mentioned as
a possibility; if the house is not in a good repair conservation work
can be carried out at Wall to Wall's expense. If you know of a sheep station

The Administrative Co-ordinator is a pivotal member of the RANSW team
facilitating the administrative functions of the organisation and assisting
the co-ordination of its day to day operations. The Co-ordinator will
field enquiries and refer calls from regional arts and cultural organisations,
Regional Arts Development Officers and the general public, update and
manage databases, undertake banking and receipting, process in-coming
and out-going mail, filing, travel booking, purchasing of office supplies
and provide administrative assistance to the Chief Executive Officer and
other staff as required. This is an ideal arts industry entry level position
for a person with sound administrative abilities and good people skills.

Rsponsible for developing policy framework and partnerships between Indigenous
artists and communities living in NSW and key government, corporate and

THE HOLDING REDLICH
PITCHING COMPETITION
20 November
The competition is open to anyone who is registered for the three day
2003 SPAA conference to be in Byron Bay from 18-21 November. Five pitches
will be chosen for the competition, which will take place during lunch
on Thursday 20th. A panel of international and local industry figures
will judge the competition. The winner receives airfare for one to the
Cannes Film Festival or a TV market in 2004 plus $2000 cash prize spending
money and free registration to SPAA 2004 Conference. This year SPAA will
introduce the Audience Choice Prize, with delegates who attend the lunch
casting their vote for the best pitch. The winner will receive a special

A new biennial NSW Premier's Prize for Literary Scholarship, valued at
$15,000, will be included in the NSW Premier's Literary Awards in 2004.
The prize acknowledges the importance of the classics in the contemporary
world and rewards excellence in literary scholarship. In 2004 the NSW
Premier's Literary Awards, with a total prize pool of $157,000, are the
most generous and comprehensive literary awards of their kind in Australia.

THREDBO 'ART WITH
ALTITUDE' EXHIBITION - $10,000 COMMISSION
An exhibition of outdoor art to be held in Thredbo from 14-21 February.
Artists are invited to submit their plans for an artwork by way of a sketch
or slides. From these entries 50 artists will be asked to produce a macquette
of their work for display at the exhibition. The exhibition will culminate
in the presentation of a $10 000 commission for an artists to reproduce

CCDNSW ONLINE EXPANSION
The newly updated CCDNSW website includes some great sections such as
the Online Youth Journal which posts a variety of information about arts
projects, community development projects, and resources involving young
people. There is also an easy and accessible calendar open for anyone

or a community group that is involved in community development, you are
