GOING ABOUT GETTING TO GROUNDSWELL: GOING, GOING … ?
Don't miss out! Regional Arts NSW has secured a grant of $15,000 from the NSW Premier to assist volunteers and artists getting to Groundswell, the 2002 Regional Arts Australia National Conference. The deadline for Earlybird registrations is looming - 31 July. So if you're keen to get to Groundswell in October and require assistance with travel costs, please contact your local Regional Arts Development Officer a.s.a.p. (addresses on the website www.regionalartsnsw.com.au/network/rados-rabs.html). If you are in an unserviced area, check out the Groundswell website for information - www.regionalartsnsw.com.au/groundswell/travaccom.html.
There is also assistance available for regionally based practising professional artists through the Commonwealth Regional Arts Fund Quick Turnaround Grants program. You'll need to fulfil the usual criteria as outlined in the Guidelines www.regionalartsnsw.com.au/grants/qtg.html. But hurry!

INDENT - ONE OFF EVENT GRANTS
The next round of grants for Indent One Off Events is now open to young people all around NSW who wish to develop an idea for an all ages event in their community. LOCAL HISTORY RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION GRANTS
The Royal Australian Historical Society provides grants of up to $5,000 for local history research and publication projects. Applications only from groups which have a formal constitution setting out their objectives and rules. Assistance can be provided for:
* Provision of research material
* Conservation of research material
* Publication from material researched (includes books, indexes of existing material and journals)
* Innovative publications to promote regional historical awareness
* Culturally diverse histories
* Educational programs
* Support for the development of professional services and programs.

ANPC NEW DRAMATISTS EXCHANGE - NEW YORK
The Australian National Playwrights Centre (ANPC) runs an exchange program with New Dramatists in New York which is supported by the Literature Board of the Australia Council. Each year, an Australian playwright works for three weeks at the home of New Dramatists on 44th Street near Times Square, and a New Dramatists playwright is included in the workshop program at the National Playwrights' Conference in Australia. The Australian playwright is chosen by a competition. Applicants must have had at least one play produced and have a thorough knowledge of Australian drama and theatre. The winner's body of work and their ability to represent the theatre industry will play a significant part in the judging process. The prize includes a return airfare, some spending money, and tickets to performances in New York. PAT CORRIGAN ARTISTS' GRANT
The Pat Corrigan Artists' Grant assists with the costs associated with public presentation of work - things like framing, space hire, opening night costs, catalogue production etc. It doesn't cover art material costs. It is for amounts up to $500 for an individual or $1000 for a group and is available to any professional Australian visual artist. The grant is tied to particular exhibition periods - the August round is for November, December, January. ASIALINK RESIDENCIES 2003
Asialink is offering Arts Residencies in the categories of Literature, Visual Arts / Craft, Performing Arts and Arts Management. The program provides a grant for travel, living and project expenses, and provides initial contacts with local organisations and the Australian Embassy in each host country. Residencies of up to four months are available in China and Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. OZCO - WAIKATO ARTISTS' RESIDENCY, NEW ZEALAND
A six week interdisciplinary artists' residency has been established at the Waikato Institute of Technology (www.wintec.ac.nez/mediarts) in Hamilton, NZ and will take place in Jan-Mar 2003. Based on a collaborative model, the residency will involve up to three artists. The outcomes will explore the theme of cultural difference. The artists will ideally work across different art forms, have experience in production techniques and have some experience working creatively in a small group. GEORGE FAIRFAX PLAY PRIZE
Entries of scripts for a maximum of two actors are invited as submissions into the Castlemaine State Festival 2003 (March 28 -April 6) The George Fairfax Play Prize has been presented at biennially since 1999. A panel of judges (including John Romeril and Hilary McPhee) will select one play to be professionally produced and presented as part of the 2003 Festival. In addition, the playwright will be presented with a cash payment of $2,000. JACARANDA ACQUISITIVE DRAWING AWARD
Australian artists are invited to submit drawings to compete for this major acquisitive award of $10,000, along with further acquisitions to the value of $5,000. Selected works will tour five regional and metropolitan galleries in 2003. Works will be judged by Edmund Capon, Director, Art Gallery of New South Wales. NATIONAL YOUTH WEEK SLOGAN AND DESIGN COMPETITION
Are you aged 12 - 25 and feel like getting creative? Got a catch cry for the nation? Want to create THE single largest event on Australia's youth calendar? Well, here's your opportunity... National Youth Week (NYW) is an annual feature on Australia's youth calendar, recognising the contributions and showcase the talents of young Australians. In preparation for NYW 2003 (5 - 13 April) young Australians are invited to submit a slogan and design for selection as THE imagery for this event. The selected design will be the basis for a range of communication products including posters, badges and websites. BHP WALTZING MATILDA PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION & EXHIBITION
The Outback Regional Art Gallery in Winton, North West Queensland will be presenting The BHP Waltzing Matilda Photographic Exhibition from 16 September to 15 November. Entries for the first prize of $3000 are invited from across Australia. The theme is an image of the outback. PROJECT OFFICER - YOUTH AFFAIRS
The Moree Place Team seeks a talented, experienced and committed person to undertake this important work in the Moree Plains Shire. The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate experience in the designing and implementing of Youth Activity Programs, particularly with Aboriginal Youth, and the ability to promote a positive image of young people in the wider community. The position requires strong liaison with all levels of government and with community organisations. The position is full-time for a period of two years at a salary to be negotiated.
