MAJOR NEW REGIONAL
ARTS FUNDS FOR NSW
The NSW Premier and Minister for the Arts, Bob Carr, has also announced
some major new initiatives to make the arts more accessible for people
in regional areas of NSW this year including:
- A new $1.9 million
program - Arts Access - to give children in remote schools more
opportunities to see performances by Australia's leading theatre, music
and dance companies. Under the program, children from towns like Bourke,
Brewarrina, Ivanhoe, Cobar and Moree will be taken to larger regional
centres to see performances by companies including Bell Shakespeare,
Bangarra Dance Theatre and the Sydney Symphony orchestra as well as
to see touring art exhibitions.
- $200,000 to support
the training of volunteers in the state's network of museums and galleries.
- A new $1.25m fund
to increase the number of projects in regional NSW by the major Sydney-based
cultural institutions including:
- More conserved
works to be lent free of charge by the Art Gallery of NSW to regional
galleries.
- More internships
for staff and volunteers from regional galleries at the Art Gallery
of NSW.
- Increased
assistance to the Historic Houses Trust to implement public access
and conservations plans at key heritage properties.
