TO CONDUCT GRANT-WRITING WORKSHOPS IN FEBRUARY
Regional Arts NSW will be conducting grant writing workshops for community
organisations in the Central Orana, Illawarra/ Shoalhaven and the Far
North Coast regions in the first two weeks of February in the lead up
to the 2003 Country Arts Support Program (CASP) deadline on 14 March 2003.

ATSIC ARTS FUNDING
A small grants program to recognise, promote and present Indigenous arts;
to develop arts skills, including management, planning and marketing;
to produce works of art for public display. Projects that may be funded
include: arts development activities; art work - visual, literature; artifacts
production - craftwork; performing arts - contemporary dance, music, theatre;
media arts - film/video, broadcasting; and exhibitions. Funding is also
available for organising or attending arts related conferences, workshops
and seminars (not International). Applications for up to $5,000 will be

DOCITA CONTEMPORARY
MUSIC TOURING PROGRAM
The Contemporary Music Touring Program supports touring opportunities
for Australian musicians, and increased audience access to live Australian
contemporary music, particularly in rural and regional Australia. Professional
members of the Australian music industry, including performers, managers,
agents, music networks, and music organisations representing all contemporary

OZCO LITERATURE
BOARD WRITE IN YOUR FACE
A new initiative of the Australia Council's Literature Board open to young
writers (aged 16 to 30). Up to $5,000 is available for projects that use
language in innovative ways, including articles designed for magazines,
e-zines, comics, multimedia, multi-art forms, web sites, live performance
and the spoken word. Applications must cover the writing or language aspect
of the project, and not equipment or to self-publish your work. Projects
must start after 30 May. Applications must address the criteria and include

METRO SCREEN INDIGENOUS
MENTOR SCHEME 2003
Four fully subsidised places are offered for NSW Indigenous people with
or without prior film making experience to make a short film. The aim
is to encourage new Indigenous film makers to present their ideas and
develop their skills and experience in television and video production
and to increase their prospects for employment in the film and television
industry. Applicants are assessed on their idea, skills and how this opportunity

BUZZ MUSIC GRANTS
A program from the Australia Council's Music Board to support young musicians,
sound artists and arts workers. Artists, groups or organisations can apply
for up to $2,500 for any type of project that involves music or sound
as the principal element. Projects may combine music or sound with other
media or artforms, they may be for recordings, mentorships, performances
or touring projects. Funding is not available for the purchase of new
instruments or audio gear or for the core costs of touring with a community
or youth group. Applicants must be aged 26 or younger. Applications must

2003 YOUNG & EMERGING CCD RESIDENCIES
The Federal Government's Young and Emerging Artists' initiative for 2003
is run by the Community Cultural Development Board (CCDB) of the Australia
Council. Offering a series of international residencies for young leaders
in community cultural development practice with organisations that share
the philosophies and principles of CCD, the program provides the opportunity
to make new connections, develop projects and networks, and share knowledge
between the sector in Australia and practitioners, artists, communities
and organisations internationally. Applicants need to be 30 years old

HEPHZIBAH TINTNER
FELLOWSHIP 2003 - CONDUCTING & CHOREOGRAPHY
The purpose of this new inaugural Fellowship is to promote specific performing
arts by enabling successful applicants to undertake study and/or training
in their chosen field. In its first year, the Fellowship is to be directed
to the field of conducting and choreography. The successful applicant
will receive $40,000 for a 12-month program to be undertaken in 2004.
The Fellowship will be awarded for a program of work to be developed,
for conductors, with the Sydney Symphony, Opera Australia and possibly
the Australian Ballet, and for choreographers, with Sydney Dance Company,

DIGITAL VISUAL
FX SCHEME ROUND 15
Established in 1998 by the NSW Film and Television Office (FTO) to provide
on-the-job skills and development opportunities in the digital fx industry.
The scheme offers six month traineeships at some of Sydney's leading digital
fx companies, with training offered in a wide array of digital fx skills
including 3D modeling and animation, compositing, design and fx production.
Applicants must demonstrate a high level of visual creativity and an active
interest in the field of digital visual effects and imaging. Film and/or

2ND COMMONWEALTH
FILM FESTIVAL JUNE 2003 - OPEN FOR ENTRIES
A showcase of works by celebrated Commonwealth filmmakers in Gala Screenings,
as well as works from emerging artists. This festival is a highly anticipated
landmark on the British cultural calendar and one of the largest film
festivals in the UK This year's focus is on original and personal films
with the potential to entrance a diverse audience. Submissions for feature
films, shorts and documentaries made in the Commonwealth are now being
accepted. All applications must be accompanied by a preview tape on VHS.
The festival will take place 6-15 June 2003 in Manchester, England, as
a non-competitive showcase for nearly 300 features, shorts and documentaries
from the 72 nations of the Commonwealth. For an entry form visit the website

2003 SILENT CELLS
YOUTH FILM FESTIVAL
A state wide touring program of youth films selected from across NSW.
This year there are two categories:
* Emerging - for first time film makers or workshop/school entries: prizes
include a 1CCD Camera, equipment hire and entry into recognised film short
courses
* Independent - for tertiary students or individuals with greater experience
and/or access to resources and funded projects: prizes include a 3CCD
camera, equipment hire and entry into recognised film short courses

The Autumn Issue of Australia's new national folk magazine, Trad&Now
an Australian-wide quarterly magazine featuring news, reviews and events

CCD WORKERS NEEDED
- HAWKESBURY
Expressions of interest are sought from CCD workers capable of devising
a project which would enable communities in the Hawkesbury local government
area to participate in discussions about water use, and empower them to
provide long term solutions to problems affecting the quality and quantity
of water in the Hawkesbury River. The project would be the subject of
grant applications, and would demonstrate the effectiveness of CCD/cultural
planning principles in engaging communities and involving them in the

SHORT SITED 7
FILM FESTIVAL, WOLLONGONG
Wollongong's Short Sited 7 Film Festival is now calling for entries from
Illawarra short filmmakers and around the country. Illawarra residents
can enter the Fiction, Non-Fiction or Wollongong Futures categories, and
there is a National category for filmmakers from outside the region. In
addition there is a new competition for the Illawarra's under 18 filmmakers,
Short Sited Evolution. Films must be no longer than 7 minutes, and films
chosen to screen in competition will be shown in the Wollongong Botanic
Garden on Saturday March 22 2003. Details are in the News page of the

EXPERIMENTA HOUSE
OF TOMORROW SUBMISSIONS WANTED
In 2003, Experimenta is creating a major project exploring the fantasies
of future domestic life, titled House of Tomorrow. As well as a significant
interactive media exhibition designed as a domestic space, the project
will include Homepage, an online exhibition, and a number of high-profile
screening programs. Experimenta is currently seeking fully developed works
in the categories of Interactive Projects, Films, Videos and Animations
and Online Projects. Works should present entertaining visions of life
in the future house or explore extraordinary possibilities in the ordinary
scenarios of suburbia, domesticity, commodity culture, architecture and

CORNERFOLD - NEW
SBS WEBSITE
Cornerfold is a new SBS initiative featuring new work by Australian comic
artists and zinemakers, brought to life by new-media design through a
collaborative process. Issue 2 is available currently on line, with the
theme 'the lure of stuff', from Op-shop thrills, collectors' dreams to
the accumulation of memories in material things. Joining up as a cornerfold
member allows you to submit comics and stories online, participate in
forum discussions, and create your own member profile. Special offer,

REGISTER OF CULTURAL
ORGANISATIONS
The Register of Cultural Organisations, established in 1991, allows qualifying
cultural bodies to offer donors the incentive of a 100% tax deduction.
The Register provisions are contained in the Subdivision 30-F of the Income
Tax Assessment Act 1997. Under this arrangement it is possible for cultural
groups to seek financial support for a wide range of cultural activities,
for example, the creation of new theatrical work, the publication of a
literary magazine or the building of an arts centre for the community.

OFFICER - ARTS ON TOUR
$40,000 - $45,000 (pro rata)
Arts On Tour NSW, the state touring agency for the performing arts, is
seeking applications for the newly created position of Regional Support
Officer. Working as part of the small, friendly and busy Sydney team,
the Regional Support Officer's role is to promote, encourage and support
the volunteer/community presenters touring circuit in regional NSW. Duties
include research and assess regional issues, develop and build relationships
with community presenters, and provide advice and professional development
opportunities to assist the successful delivery of touring productions.
The Regional Support Officer will also assist with the development of
viable touring itineraries. The successful applicant will have a warm
and friendly manner, excellent communication and networking skills, a
passion for regional NSW, and have sound experience/ knowledge of all
project management areas for presenting performances. Desirable (but not
essential) is the ability to conduct or coordinate professional development
workshops, strong computer skills, and an understanding of performance
art touring. This position is 4 days per week part time, salary range
is $40,000 - $45,000 p.a (pro rata) and regional travel will be required.

and visionary person to lift the Outback Theatre to new heights. An exciting
future for Outback Theatre is assured as the organisation continues to
explore the role of regional based theatre in the South West of NSW. Outback
Theatre is a mobile community-based theatre project operating in the South
West region of NSW. The Artistic Director/Administrator is responsible
for developing and delivering the youth theatre development program whilst
maintaining excellence in practice.
The position requires an impressive track record of theatre experience,
including working with young people, project management, and artist liaison.
The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills and
administrative capacity, energy and dedication, empathy for regional areas
