Regional Arts NSW News
REGIONAL
ARTS: SUSTAINING THE GAIN
In an article published recently in Parks and Leisure Australia, Victoria
Keighery, Chief Executive Officer of Regional Arts NSW, discusses the
role of the arts - and of the Regional Arts NSW network -in the sustainable
development of distinctive regional identities in New South Wales. Touching
on relationships between the arts and tourism, the article provides some
interesting insights into the roles of the Regional Arts NSW network in
developing cultural life as well as drawing on some of the research produced
by the regional profiles project last year. Those who've never quite understood
the who what where when how and why of Regional Arts NSW should check
it out (and download a copy ) at www.regionalartsnsw.com.au/resources/sustaining_the_gain.html.
CHARLIE TRINDALL,
REGIONAL INDIGENOUS CULTURAL OFFICER AT RANSW, RESIGNS
Charlie Trindall has resigned to take up a position as BIG hART Regional
Coordinator in Armidale. In nearly two years as State RICO, Charlie has
liaised extensively with the eleven RADOs across the state on Indigenous
cultural issues and developed a Strategic Plan for regional Indigenous
cultural development in New South Wales. He was instrumental in the initial
development of a network of Regional Indigenous Cultural Officers in NSW
and has played a pivotal role in maintaining a strong voice at State level
for regional Indigenous cultural issues. Charlie will be staying in touch
with regional Indigenous cultural development when he takes up his new
position in July, but "working more at the grass-roots level where
my passion is," he said.
Regional Arts NSW will be advertising for a new person to fill the RICO
position following a review of the outcomes of the Indigenous Cultural
Program to date.
CATH FOGARTY,
FAR WEST RADO, RESIGNS
After four years as RADO in the Far West Region, Cath Fogarty has resigned.
Cath was instrumental in establishing the Outback Arts Regional Arts Board
and has helped the communities from Bourke, Brewarrina, Walgett, Warren,
Nyngan, Cobar and Coonamble Shires to develop, facilitate and promote
countless arts initiatives. She leaves behind a strong regional network
of people interested in arts development and a most solid foundation for
the future of the arts and cultural development in the Far West.
"Being a RADO has been a wonderful, enriching and challenging experience,"
said Cath. "I have met some extraordinary people and found the potential
and opportunity for things to happen in this region a constant source
of inspiration."
Cath, who is a talented ceramics artist, will be taking some time to commit
to her art-work before pursuing other opportunities.
