NEW MEDIA ARTS BOARD CLIENT MEETINGS
22, 23 August, Sydney
Staff from the OzCo's New Media Arts Board will conduct client meetings
(by appointment) to discuss future projects and answer questions on programs
and assessment process for 2002 at the Australia Council, 372 Elizabeth
Street, Surry Hills. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and

MGF PILOT ACCREDITATION
SCHEME
The Museums and Galleries Foundation of NSW is conducting a trial pilot
accreditation scheme for museums and galleries in NSW in the Hunter region
next month. The trial will apply a set of draft minimum standards which
have been drawn from a number of standards and accreditation documents
developed in Australia and overseas. Your comments on the draft standards

2003 MYER ONE-YEAR
INDIGENOUS SCHOLARSHIP - AFTRS
A one-year scholarships will be granted by The Australian Film, Television
& Radio School to an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person in
one of the following specialisations: Television Producing (Non Drama),
Directing, Producing, Scriptwriting, Documentary, Digital Media, Television
Editing (Non Drama) , Location Sound Recording, Editing, Screen Composition,
Sound, Design and or Cimenatography. The scholar will commence at the
School late January 2003. The stipend is $16,000 (taxable). Applicants
must be able to demonstrate a developed interest in their field. Contact

BROADWAY POETRY
PRIZE
Entries are open for the Broadway Poetry Prize, as part of the Australian
Poetry Festival to be held in Balmain in September. The winner will receive
$5,000 in prize money and the winning work will be published in the quarterly
magazine, Five Bells. The competition is open to all citizens and permanent
residents of Australia. Each separate entry must total 100 lines or fewer.

STC / SMH YOUNG
PLAYWRIGHTS' AWARD
Sydney Theatre Company is seeking entries from playwrights from NSW and
the ACT aged 19 years and under. Entry is by submission of a one-act play
of not more than 30 minutes' duration. Two first prize winners be awarded
a weekend workshop for their scripts, working with a professional director,
dramaturg and actors; a staged reading of their play at STC's Wharf venue;
a cash prize and ongoing support from the Australian National Playwrights'

SHELL ECONOMIST
ESSAY COMPETITION - US$20,000
The Economist and Shell International invite entries for an essay competition
with the topic, "How much freedom should we trade for our security?".
Entries must be in English, with an ideal length of 1,500 words (2,000
words max). The winning essay will receive US$20,000 and will appear in
the prestigious annual publication from The Economist: The World in 2003.
Two silver runners-up will each receive US$10,000 and five bronze award
winners will each receive US$5,000. All eight essays will be published

GEACH MEMORIAL AWARD
An award to the entry of highest artistic merit for the best portraits
painted from life of some man or women distinguished in the Arts, Letters
or the Sciences by any female artist resident in Australia, executed during

September 19 to October 27 + a tour to the National Portrait Gallery in

MARRAWARNGING
INDIGENOUS WRITER'S AWARD 2002
Marrawarnging is a Noongah word meaning "hands talking". An
initiative of the Centre for Indigenous History and the Arts and the University
of Western Australian Press, the award includes $5,000 in prize money
to the author of the winning manuscript and publication of the winning
work in book form by the University of WA Press. Book length works in
English, Aboriginal English and in a bilingual text can be entered in
categories including novels, collections of stories or poems, individual
and family oral history collections, histories (including regional histories,

YOUTH ART AWARD 2002
An acquisitive national art prize of $4000 for a painting, drawing or

INDIGENOUS SCHOOL IN NEW MEDIA ARTS - HURRY!
The Australian Network for Art and Technology invites Indigenous artists
to apply for the second National Indigenous School in New Media Arts to
be held in Adelaide from September 23 to October 11. Fifteen Indigenous
artists from across Australia will receive training in internet and multimedia
disciplines, including graphics, web design, video, sound and webcasting.
The course will also inform students about exhibiting and promoting new
media art and bring them into contact with a network of other artists
and support organisations. The cost is $450 per student. Some travel,

MEDIA MAKERS WANTED
TO PRESENT WORKS AT ELECTROFRINGE 2002
electrofringe 2002 will take place October 2-7 in Newcastle as part of
the This Is Not Art festival.
As in previous years, there will be a series of presentations, workshops,
forums, exhibitions, screenings and performances of work being done in
the realms of electronic and digital media.
This year's program will include video, animation, computer games, audiovisual
software, culture jamming, net art, vjing, electronic music, multimedia
performances, site-specific installations, and anything else that explores
our technological landscape from an interesting perspective. We are looking

ADELAIDE FESTIVAL
CENTRE 'OPEN SPACE 2002' PROGRAM
2-7 December, Adelaide
Calling for expressions of interest to showcase new work by both emerging
and established practitioners. The centre will provide marketing, technical
and venue support for participating performances and visual arts works.
Application is open to all, across all artforms, with preference given
to proposals that 'display recent new developments'. Performances should
not last longer than 20 minutes and visual artists are asked to propose
one piece of work only. A technical information sheet must be completed

- HEYWIRE 2002
Are you 16-22 years old and living or working in regional Australia? Do
you have a tale to tell? Heywire offer young people from outside the cities
the chance to get their story on the radio and ispread the nation.Whip
up a non-fiction story about anything that is important to you and your
life outside the major cities. Include any ideas you might have for the
type of music or other sound effects. In total it must only be around
400 words - or about 3 minutes. The winning entries will be produced by
ABC radio boffins and spread around the nation's airwaves on Triple J.

X-PRESSIONS ANNUAL
NEW WORK PROGRAM
Bundaberg Players (Qld) is calling for scripts to be involved in 'X-Pressions',
its annual program of new work as part of the 'Players' subscription season.
The inclusion of new work is aimed at supporting an emerging writer, as
well as attracting and challenging audiences aged 18-45 to attend regional

Screen Hub (the new screen-based initiative from Dramatic Online), The

THE SYDNEY SHORT
PLAY FESTIVAL
Australia's largest season of short plays is looking for scripts of 5-15
minutes' in length, to be staged at Newtown Theatre in January 2003. There
is no specific theme, no limit on cast size (apart from realistic creative
intention), scripts must not have been previously staged in Sydney and
would preferably be of simple set and stage design. Pieces that explore
the concept of theatrical space and 'push the envelope' in terms of what
theatre can offer will be considered with high regard. Send a hard copy

REGIONAL ARTS
DEVELOPMENT OFFICER (RADO) - REGIONAL ARTS VICTORIA
Salary: $30,000 + car
Based in Swan Hill, the new RADO will work as a member of the Creative
Communities team with principal responsibility for community cultural
development and arts development work in regional Victoria. The Creative
Communities program facilitates community cultural development, networks,
programs and projects in outer metropolitan, regional and rural Victoria.
RADOs provide contact, resources and access to a body of knowledge, skills
and processes to assist regional communities to realise their artistic
and cultural aspirations. The RADO will also work with RAV central staff
on the promotion and delivery of all its programs and projects in the
