FAR NORTH COAST TO HAVE RADO AND PROJECT OFFICER
Regional Arts NSW and Lgov were in Ballina on Friday 14 February for the first meeting of the Far North Coast Regional Arts Board Steering Committee, which is made up of representatives from each of ten contributing local councils/shires - Ballina, Byron, Copmanhurst, Grafton, Kyogle, Lismore, Maclean, Pristine Waters, Richmond Valley and Tweed. The Committee has given the stamp of approval to establish an RAB office in Ballina, where the new RADO will be based, and to appoint a Project Officer to work with the RADO from Grafton. The new positions will be advertised in June, pending formal approval of council budgetary allocations for the new financial year.

NEW REGIONAL ARTS BOARD IN ALBURY
The Regional Arts Board Albury Wodonga has changed its name to Murray Arts Inc. A new logo and corporate image for the Board will be introduced over the new few months, and a comprehensive website will be developed to service local arts and community cultural development needs. A preliminary website has been established at www.murrayarts.org.au which includes information such as 'Who We Are,' and 'What We Are' as well as details of upcoming events. QUICK TURNAROUND GRANTS - FUNDS STILL AVAILABLE
Urgent assistance of up to $1,000 is available through the Regional Quick Turnaround Grants Program for local arts and cultural projects which are ineligible for funding under other programs. Preference is given to projects from smaller and remote communities. There is no deadline and applications may be made as required. Decisions are advised within 72 hours of receipt. BANGARRA TOURING REGIONAL NSW IN MARCH
Regional audiences will get to experience the magic of Bangarra Dance Theatre in Wagga Wagga, Orange, Wollongong, Taree and Gosford this March when the company goes on tour with The Dreaming. The Dreaming combines ancient myth with electrifying dance and music from the contemporary urban world. HOTHOUSE THEATRE'S COMEDY FESTIVAL 2003
Hothouse Theatre has imported five acts from the 2002 Melbourne International Comedy Festival for a festival of theatre-based comedy in Albury on right now. 24 HOURS TO BE REPLACED BY NEW ABC ARTS MAGAZINE
ABC Enterprises has announced the launch of a new monthly arts and entertainment magazine to replace 24 Hours in June. The new magazine will provide a comprehensive guide to arts events across the country as well as expanded radio and television listings. Co-publisher Margaret Meagher of State of the Arts, said the new magazine will be "fresh and contemporary" and take 'a wide view of what 'art' is. "The magazine will bring to life the breadth of ABC arts content, ranging from fashion and design to the more traditional performing and visual arts," she added.

BEAT GRAFFITI GRANTS
The State Government's Beat Graffiti Grants Scheme offers funding of $300,000.00 for local communities to reduce graffiti vandalism by promoting opportunities for young people who are interested in community art and design. There are five categories: graffiti in schools, reconciliation projects, graffiti and the community, community pride and an open category. OZCO DIGITAL INK RESIDENCY - VIC
This six week residency program based at the State Library of Victoria involves two writers, one experienced in digital writing and a print-based writer wishing to extend his/her practice in the digital area. Applications are open to individual digital and print-based writers and digital and print-based writing partnerships. The value of the residency is $6,000 per artist, with accommodation and travel costs being met by the project. A joint initiative of the Australia Council for the Arts Literature and New Media Arts Boards. 2002-2003 DEPARTMENT OF ABORGINAL AFFAIRS' MAJOR GRANTS
Applications are invited from individuals and organisations in NSW who have the capacity and expertise to provide innovative projects that address socio-economic disadvantage of Aboriginal people, reflect the social justices priorities of the Government and the Department and give Aboriginal people the capacity to take advantage of economic, social and cultural opportunities. FOUNDATION FOR YOUNG AUSTRALIANS PARTNERSHIP GRANTS
Organisations working with young people aged 12 to 25 may apply for funding designed to address an identified youth "need" or "issue" in an organisation or community. Six to eight applicants will be selected to work in partnership with The Foundation for Young Australians to develop a proposal to address the identified need or issue. The Foundation will make a financial contribution to the organisations selected to develop these proposals. Three or four will be selected to receive a multi-year grant. Approximately $320,000 is available for Partnership Grants with organisations this year. Website www.youngaustralians.org.

THE IAN POTTER MUSIC COMMISSIONS 2003
Expressions of interested are invited for The Ian Potter Music Commissions, a pivotal aim of which is that major new Australian works are commissioned and performed. The Windmill Trust Scholarship provides up to $5,000 for regional NSW artists working in printmaking, drawing, painting or sculpture, to mount an exhibition or undertake a visual arts degree. It is designed to help artists resume a professional career which has been interrupted due to extenuating circumstances. RED GATE ARTIST RESIDENCY
The Red Gate Artist Residency Program gives artists the opportunity to live and work in China for up to four months. Red Gate aims to provide a learning experience to artists, and an exploration of Chinese art and culture. Available to all international artists, at any stage of their careers, from a wide range of disciplines. Participants are expected to cover the costs of living and accommodation and studio (if required). ENERGY AUSTRALIA NATIONAL TRUST AWARDS
Projects which relate to conserving Australia's Heritage which were completed in NSW in 2002 stand to win a prestigious National Trust Award in categories such as Conservation - Built or Landscape Heritage, Adaptive Re-use, Cultural Heritage, Indigenous Cultural Heritage, Multicultural, Tourism, Electronic, Print, Education or Energy management. 2003 MAFIA DOCUMENTARY AWARDS
The only film awards dedicated solely to showcasing the craft of documentary making. MAFIA is calling for films with original vision and a unique story to tell. Four major awards: Best Film, Most Original Concept, Audience Award and First Time Filmmakers Award. Prizes include film training and equipment to the value of more than $25,000. MAFIA's aim is to encourage films with vision, originality and well-told stories rather than highly polished or 'professional-looking' films.. 2003 also sees the MAFIA Documentary Awards become IF Awards accredited, making this year's finalists eligible for a Lexus IF Award in the documentary category. The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory invites entries for Australia's largest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts award from Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander artists. DAFFODIL DAY AWARDS
The Cancer Council Victoria's Daffodil Day Arts Awards and exhibition bring together a range of artistic work addressing Australians' number one health concern - cancer. Entries are open to all sections of the population: professional and amateur, young and old. Works may cover a wide range of themes, from intimate personal portraits, to inspiring stories of courage, generosity and caring, to accounts of diagnosis, treatment and side-effects. 360 DEGREES: WOMEN IN SOUND
360 degrees is a project aimed at increasing the participation and visibility of women in sound art culture. An event is to be a part of Liquid Architecture, an annual sound art festival which involves performances, exhibitions, artist talks, and screenings in Melbourne. Entries are invited involving 4-channel compositions and videos with soundtracks by women, to be installed at West Space and First Site galleries, Melbourne in June/July. All work is to explore short form, being of a 1 minute duration and all sound must be by women. Both established and emerging artists are encouraged to participate. FLYING ARTS ONLINE VISUAL ARTS COURSES
Flying Arts' Visual Arts Online courses are for learners of all ages wishing to acquire or revise basic visual arts skills. These self-study courses are useful to build up a folio for tertiary applications and/or to supplement basic skills for arts practitioners. There are six units of activities each including six activities, which take ten weeks to complete.
