AUSTRALIA DAY HONOURS & THE ARTS
In a recent article on Dramatic Online Terry Cutler pointed out that one way we publicly show what we value as a community is through our national honours, arguing that the increase in awards given for arts is an indication of the increased value Australians place in the arts. According to Cutler's analysis, the arts held a 2% share of the recent Australian honors, with "real artists" (as opposed to arts administrators) faring well in their own right. Read the full article at www.dramaticonline.com/do3/news/news.asp?Id=32959

Special congratulations go out from Regional Arts NSW to those who received Australia Day honours from across regional NSW:

  • Edwin, HABERFIELD of Kempsey for service to country music (OAM)
  • John Charles KRUMMEL of Gosford for service to the art, particularly through the Marian Street Theatre (OAM)
  • Dr Paul PAVIOUR of Goulburn for service for music (OAM)
  • Betty WILSON of Orange for service to the community, particularly through the Country Women's Association (OAM)

Anybody can nominate a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the community for an award within the Order of Australia. Why not help increase the recognition for regional arts practitioners in the national honours by nominating someone you know in your local community who has made a significant contribution in the field of arts and culture? Someone from your local arts council, community arts or other cultural group, a volunteer or a local artist? Nomination forms are available from the Australian Honours Secretariat Tel 1800 552 275 24 Website www.itsanhonour.gov.au/about/how_to_nominate.html
