THE
2ND NEW ENGLAND BACH FESTIVAL - WITH LEADING AUSTRALIAN PERFORMERS
12- 19 February, Armidale
This hugely successful newcomer to the regional arts scene in New
South Wales is a rapturous five day celebration of the music of J.S.
Bach and composers he knew and loved. This year the Festival brings
together some of Australia's leading specialists of early music including
the Song Company and the Australian Brandenburg Ensemble who will
travel to Armidale to perform together for the first time as well
as presenting separate recitals. Also travelling to Armidale for the
event, Salut! Baroque will be performing a Grand Finale concert of
chamber music. Audiences will be treated to Bach's works for solo
violin by Anna Macdonald. Renowned interpreter of Bach's keyboard
music, John O'Donnell will give separate recitals on harpisichord
and pipe organ. Australian lutenist Tommie Andersson will give a solo
recital in the resonant Ursuline Chapel (where the Song Company will
also perform a concert of polyphonic choral works). |
|
In addition
to concerts and recitals there will be music for a Sunday service,
a musical-drama in Armidale's shopping districts, a festival lecture
by an eminent baroque scholar, an outdoor dinner and workshops.
Fast becoming
the foremost event on the Australian music calendar dedicated to
the performance of early music, the New England Bach Festival is
a bright new star on the regional stage in New South Wales.
