FIVE NEW REGIONAL ARTS PROJECTS RECEIVE RAF FUNDING
Regional Arts NSW has announced an additional $84,080 in grants from the Australian Government's Regional Arts Fund for 2004-2005 to support five new community arts initiatives in regional and remote New South Wales. The additional funds are the result of the decision by the Government to increase the Regional Arts Fund specifically to address priority areas of unmet need for arts development support: in remote, isolated and Indigenous communities of New South Wales and for communities which have not previously benefited from a Regional Arts Fund grant. [Full story]

TWO REGIONAL NSW ARTISTS RECEIVE 2005 WINDMILL TRUST FUNDS
Braidwood landscape artist, Jonathan Throsby, has won the $5,000 Windmill Trust Scholarship for regional NSW and ACT artists. Throsby, who also works as a rural fencing contractor, has long been regarded as an exceptional contributor to the Australian contemporary painting tradition. The grant will enable him to take time out to create a body of work for exhibition in GRANTPIRRIE Gallery, Sydney, in 2006. The trustees have also awarded exhibition support valued at $3,000 to Sandra McMahon from Towrang, NSW, whose recent art practice includes drawing, mixed media and painting. Sandra has lived and worked in regional NSW for the past 22 years and her main inspiration has also come from the landscape. NSW REGIONAL ARTS FUND 2006 - MORE FUNDS, MORE ACCESSIBLE
Applications for the Regional Arts Fund in NSW are now open, with opportunities for regional communities to access funds for arts and cultural projects starting in 2006. This year the Fund is even more accessible with a special new category - Emerging Projects - aimed at applicants who have either never applied or who have previously been unsuccessful. The new category is the result of an announcement of an increase in the Fund by the Minister for the Arts & Sport last year to target areas that have not previously accessed the Fund, particularly remote, isolated, disadvantaged and Indigenous communities. Unlike the other categories - New Initiatives, Partnerships and Residencies & Mentorships - applicants for the Emerging Projects category do not have to submit a full proposal.
