BRUSHMEN OF THE BUSH
2 June 9 July, Broken Hill

landmark exhibition at Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery celebrating five artistic
legends of the outback. Following the death of the group's best known member,
Pro Hart, in March, there are now only two surviving "brushmen of the bush",
Jack Absalom (78) and John Pickup (74). The other two were Eric Minchin and Hugh
Schulz. Active from 1973 to 1989, the famed group toured the world, staging more
than 50 exhibitions and raising $1m for charity. This is the first exhibition
to comprehensively document the history of the group, who were a cultural phenomenon
recognised throughout Australia, and in the US, Britain and Europe. The exhibition
will tour 11 regional galleries later this year. Contact Rebekah Butler, Manager

cutting edge and sheer youthful exuberance of 12 Tone Diamonds, or the
mastery of piano veteran Mike Nock, each band you come across at this festival

JUST
ADD WATER
Until
20 August, Wagga Wagga
Water, and the lack thereof, is the defining element of the Australian
landscape. Its uses and abuses have had a crucial role in shaping Australian society.
It's been pumped up from below the earth, held in dams, piped over the landscape
and even dragged down from the clouds. In the process we have destroyed ecologies,
built communities and created a new Australia. Discover the story of our relationship
with water in this new interactive exhibition including everything from maps and
games to artefacts and objects. There
is even a working toilet in the foyer! At the Museum of the Riverina, Historic
Council Chambers site. Tel 02 6926 9655 Website www.wagga.nsw.gov.au/museum.
