Performers at last year's Big Feet Little FeetBig Feet Little Feet: A Perpetual Muse

This year, two dance practitioners are directing, curating and coordinating the show: Natasha Middleton, a dancer/teacher who has worked with Sydney Dance Company and Tasdance and Jacqueline Renton, a dancer who trained at the Northern Rivers Conservatorium. As a strong linking musical theme, the co-curators have asked each dance group to choose a song by Neil and Tim Finn with which to choreograph. The ABC film crew interviewing RADO James Giddey in Broken Hill. Photo: Andrew Holland, producerABC TV Sunday Arts in Broken Hill
An ABC TV crew was in Broken Hill in July shooting a story for Sunday Arts which explores how the town has become a melting pot for artists. ‘Broken Hill Arts Mecca’ will be screened on ABC television on 2 September. ‘Broken Hill Arts Mecca’ explores the creative lure of the ‘Silver City’ and uncovers the wealth of new talent that now outshines the town’s fading mine. From the ‘Brushmen of the Bush’ which established a reputation for Broken Hill as a centre for ‘outback art’ in the 1970s to today’s melting pot of artists and galleries (there were 36 at last count), the story reveals the complex reasons for Broken Hill’s status as ‘The Arts End of Australia’: from the inspiration provided by the landscape itself and the cost of living (cheap!) to the lifestyle, the people and the healthy art market.

Re-enchanting the dream

January – June, Lismore
Despite the bitter cold and wet over 1,000 people participated in this year's Lismore Lantern Festival with over 10,000 people in the audience. Festival Director, Jyllie Jackson, received a Quick Response Grant from Regional Arts NSW to work for six weeks with a group of mostly young people from Coraki to create a special character for this year's event, called The Dream Holder. The project was initiated by the Coraki Crime Prevention Committee. The kids designed the lantern together and everyone had a hand in building and decorating it. Other community groups represented in the parade included a group of 40 Sudanese refugees, Guides, students from Evans River Primary, Casino and Richmond River High Schools, theatre costume students from TAFE and many, many more. With the overall theme of 'Dare to Dream', participants explored ides of archetypes, masks and mirrors, and there were around 130 participants in the spectacular choreographed finale at the Riverside Park Amphitheatre. A performance of Peace Fest by the Lieder Theatre CoDramaturg Two
1 April – 30 November, Goulburn & Sydney
Last year, the Lieder Theatre began a dramaturg workshop program, identifying three local playwrights and launching them towards completing a performable draft script. The experience led to the realisation of the importance in nurturing and supporting the process over a reasonable period of time, involving regular visits and contact with a professional dramaturg to continue the monitoring and creative focusing of the works. As a result, throughout 2007 dramaturg Francesca Smith will make 3-4 visits to nurture and guide the writers to develop their work for performance. The three writers are Judith Boyd, David Cole and Keiran Milward. The longer process of developing a script is new to the Lieder and seen as a valuable step in the development of the company which hopes to demonstrate leadership in supporting local regional theatre workers and writers in substantial and meaningful ways. Sydney based performers present this classic Albee play using Chekov's acting technique, Rudolf Steiner's speech formation and euryhtmy, and in doing so, highlight the relationship between voice and gesture. This remarkable play, set in Central park NY allows us to witness a meeting between two strangers that ultimately has us questioning the very foundation upon which society is based. These two performances are in support of the Milthorpe Children's Garden, the local Steiner inspired child care centre. The Tonic Restaurant, Milthorpe. Tel 02 6366 3811

Now a long-held Adelaide Fringe tradition, the poster competition is an ideal way for both established and up and coming designers to showcase their talents while actively contributing to the look of the next Fringe.
