Big
Feet Little Feet: A Perpetual Muse
9 10 August, Lismore
NORPA Dance Action presents a showcase of new short dance works by local adult
dancers and choreographers. This year, two dance practitioners are directing,
curating and coordinating the show: Natasha Middleton, a dancer/teacher who has
worked with Sydney Dance Company and Tasdance and Jacqueline Renton, a dancer
who trained at the Northern Rivers Conservatorium. As a strong linking musical
theme, the co-curators have asked each dance group to choose a song by Neil and
Tim Finn with which to choreograph. They have lined up an exciting array of dancers,
inspired by the concept of 'a perpetual muse', and also have layered over a visual
theme of 1940s design. Come and join the community of dancers revel in their physicality
and thoughtful expression. Big Feet Little Feet has entertained and delighted

TV Sunday Arts in Broken Hill
An ABC TV crew was in Broken Hill in July shooting a story for Sunday Arts
which explores how the town has become a melting pot for artists. Broken
Hill Arts Mecca will be screened on ABC television on 2 September.
Broken Hill Arts Mecca explores the creative lure of the Silver
City and uncovers the wealth of new talent that now outshines the towns
fading mine. From the Brushmen of the Bush which established a reputation
for Broken Hill as a centre for outback art in the 1970s to todays
melting pot of artists and galleries (there were 36 at last count), the story
reveals the complex reasons for Broken Hills status as The Arts End
of Australia: from the inspiration provided by the landscape itself and
the cost of living (cheap!) to the lifestyle, the people and the healthy art market.

doesn't just exist in metropolitan regions and it was valuable to be able to demonstrate
the FTO's commitment to working with screen practitioners across the State. What
was particularly interesting was the number of people in the Northern Rivers working
across the various media platforms and not just in film
and television," Ms Chambers said.

Dramaturg
Two
1 April 30 November, Goulburn & Sydney
Last year, the Lieder Theatre began a dramaturg workshop program, identifying
three local playwrights and launching them towards completing a performable draft
script. The experience led to the realisation of the importance in nurturing and
supporting the process over a reasonable period of time, involving regular visits
and contact with a professional dramaturg to continue the monitoring and creative
focusing of the works. As a result, throughout 2007 dramaturg Francesca Smith
will make 3-4 visits to nurture and guide the writers to develop their work for
performance. The three writers are Judith Boyd, David Cole and Keiran
Milward. The longer process of developing a script is new to the Lieder and
seen as a valuable step in the development of the company which hopes to demonstrate
leadership in supporting local regional theatre workers and writers in substantial
and meaningful ways. Contact Chrisjohn Hancock Tel 02 4821 5066 Email lieder@goulburn.net.au

Adelaide Fringe poster competition
Quite aside from the kudos of being the designer of the hugely exposed Adelaide
Fringe poster, the winner of the competition will also win a return flight to
Hong Kong flying Malaysia Airlines plus 4 nights accommodation. The team
at Adelaide Fringe is on the search for entries that are iconic, strong, radical,
with heaps of character, said Fringe Director Christie Anthoney. The
winning entry might make us laugh or it might be more thought-provoking and risqué,
but at its heart it will convey the unmistakeable, city-transforming nature of
the Fringe as well as throwing around a bit of love, she said. Now a long-held
Adelaide Fringe tradition, the poster competition is an ideal way for both established
and up and coming designers to showcase their talents while actively contributing
to the look of the next Fringe. Design brief available online. Website www.adelaidefringe.com.au/2008-Fringe/Poster-Competition.aspx
