CCD SECTOR REJECTS OZCO FUTURE PLANNING MODEL
The Australia Council's latest Future Planning Model for CCD ('Proposed Model for Community Partnerships') was unanimously rejected by representatives of the nation's nineteen peak Community Arts organisations at a workshop held at the Australia Council in Sydney on 21 February. The Future Planning Models and a Rationale for Change have since been published on the Australia Council's website, with feedback sought up to 31 March. However, as further changes are expected from the Taskforce as a result of the advice from the sector at the 21 February workshop, Regional Arts NSW has advised waiting for further developments before contributing to a comprehensive response from the field. A national alliance is currently being formed to provide a coordinated response to the Australia Council's restructure proposals. Full story online at www.regionalartsnsw.com.au.

TAX CLARIFICATION FOR PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS ANNOUNCED AT LAST
After eight years of campaigning by the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) for artists to get equal recognition by the Australian Tax Office (ATO), an announcement of guidelines on income tax entitlements for professional vs hobbyist artists was finally made by the ATO in January. NAVA's Executive Direction, Tamara Winikoff described the ruling as an international benchmark and said the breakthrough was a cause for celebration by all Australian artists, performers, writers, composers and choreographers. "For artists working in all mediums, the ATO's Public Taxation Ruling: carrying on business as a professional artist (TR 2005/1) is a giant leap towards a new kind of status, one which acknowledges that the arts is an industry with its own legitimate character and purpose," she said. More information from NAVA Tel 02 9368 1900 Website www.visualarts.net.au. The ruling can be found on the ATO's website here.

Regional Arts Australia (RAA) is the key national body representing the interests of those working in the arts in regional, rural and remote Australia. RAA has achieved significant results over the last three years in winning better recognition and support for the enormous contribution that regional arts make to the cultural, economic and social wellbeing of the nation. RAA is currently working on setting some priorities and long term strategies for the next three years and would like your input. A short national survey is currently being conducted and, if you live in a regional, rural or remote area, you are invited to be a part of it. Send an email to info@regionalarts.com.au and answer the following three questions:
What do you like about your community?
What are the biggest challenges for your community? and
What are your ideas about using arts and cultural activity to strengthen your community?
Your email should also include your age range (<20, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s .... 80s, etc), if you're male or female and your postcode, for statistical purposes, but answers will be treated anonymously.
