Highlights
SHEARERS
- SCENES AROUND THE SHEDS
5 May - 5 June, Wagga Wagga
Shearing ... a quintessential part of Australia's colonial heritage and the mythology
of the bush. In this unique exhibition at the Museum of the Riverina, photojournalist
and documentary photographer, Andrew Chapman, provides an authentic insight
of rural life. Shot in dry and dusty conditions in the back blocks of New South
Wales, Shearers features 40 black and white photographs that reflect a
deep respect for the history and craft of shearing. "Shearing must be the
most labour intensive, hot, dusty, sweaty, backbreaking work a person can do,"
says Chapman. "It takes a special sort of person to be a shearer - the love
of a knockabout lifestyle, working a full eight hours labour in rudimentary sheds
where the mercury can creep into the mid to high 40's ... as hard as a hard day's
work you can get." Contact Tel 02 6926 9654 Website www.wagga.nsw.gov.au/museum

2005 BITING DOG THEATRE FESTIVAL - GRRRRRR!!!!!!!
25 May - 3 June, Albury Wodonga
The enormously successful Biting Dog Theatre Festival is back for
its 8th bite. Each night, audiences are treated to three new, completely different,
20 minute performances by young artists from schools and youth theatres in the
region, all based on the same 'neutral' script. With only minimal guidelines and
hints provided, the performances are built based on characters, concerns and styles
of the young artists' own choosing ... and the surprises are endless. A panel
of professionals give feedback at the end of each night and there's a series of
technical traineeships in the background. Festival Director: Campion Decent. Script:
Chris Thompson. Presented by HotHouse Theatre at the Butter Factory Theatre $15/$7
