REGIONAL LANDSCAPES SHOW IN SYDNEY

Sydney-siders
have until this Saturday to catch a superb exhibition of landscapes by
regional NSW artists at the CountryScapes Exhibition at the Sydney Opera
House. Featuring 23 of the 43 finalists' works from the $35,000 Country
Energy Art Prize for Landscape Painting, the exhibition is a unique opportunity
to see the calibre and diversity of work being produced outside of the
city. The centrepiece is the winning work by Mid North Coast artist Guy
Gilmour, with highlights including works by Byron Bay's Brent Young, Koori
artist Brian Irving, Archibald Prize finalist Margarita Georgiadis and
Hunter Valley artist Jennifer O'Malley, whose work is also featured at
The Lodge, Canberra and Pope John Paul II's Vatican Collection. Opera

2004 PAUL LOWIN PRIZES ANNOUNCED - REGIONAL NSW COMPOSERS SHINE
Two
NSW regional composers were amongst the winners of Australia's richest
prize for composition announced at Government House in Sydney last night.
Andrew Ford, who lives in Robertson, was awarded the $15,000 Paul Lowin
Song Cycle Prize and Rosalind Page, from Berry, was Highly Commended
in the Orchestral category. The winner of the the Paul Lowin Orchestral
Prize, worth $25,000, was Liza Lim, while composer Gerard Brophy also
Highly Commended in the Orchestral category. The Paul Lowin Prizes, which
are are presented every two or three years in collaboration with the Australian
Music Centre, reward the pinnacle of achievement in Australian composition.

NEW CEO FOR CCDNSW
Frank Panucci is the new CEO of Community Cultural Development New South
Wales (CCDNSW). Frank has a long history of involvement in community based
activities and organisations and is currently the President of the Federation
of Italian Migrant Workers and their Families (FILEF). He has been involved
in CCD activities as a direct participant, organiser and facilitator since
1982. Frank managed the CCD Fund of the Australia Council and was also
General Manager of Carnivale. Frank has worked with a prolific range of
organisations and government departments on policy, projects and programs
across different portfolios and disciplines. He has several published
articles on Italo-Australians, community cultural development, community

The
Museum of the Riverina is proud to host the national launch of Australian
Snapshots, a national project that saw over 4,000 photographs taken by
people in regional communities. A superbe collection of photographs is
now showcased in an online gallery at www.abc.net.au/snapshots
and the fifty finalists are included in a travelling exhibition which
starts at the Museum of the Riverina, Historic Council Chambers site.
To celebrate the Wagga launch of the exhibition, ABC Riverina will be
broadcasting The Morning Show hosted by Anne Delaney from the museum.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL

The CSU Uiniversity Theatre Ensemble presents the Dickens classic which
tells the timeless tale of Ebeneezer Scrooge who is visited by the ghosts
of Christmas past, present and future. A Christmas Carol is directed by
David Wicks and features a cast drawn from the second year of CSU's BA
Acting for Screen and Stage, and is designed and stage managed by third
year students of CSU's BA in Design for Theatre and Television course.

John Birmingham's bawdy cult hit novel, 'He Died with a Felafel in His
Hand,' adapted for the stage by Simon Bedak, Steve Le Marquand & Michael
Neaylon, is about to take another twist in its already praised history
when it is performed by the University Theatre Ensemble in November. The
play documents the semi-autobiographical journey of John Birmingham through
a number of share-houses along the east coast of Australia and is filled

An IDPWAD Event

Outback Arts, the Regional Arts Board in the Far West of NSW, has organised
a three day visual arts workshop with professional artists from the Boomalli
Aboriginal Arts Cooperative at Bundanon for fourteen Aboriginal artists
from the Shires of Bourke, Brewarrina, Bogan, Cobar, Coonamble, Walgett
and Warren (including the smaller villages such as Engonnia, Collarenebri,

Murray Conservatorium is delighted to announce that scholarships valued
at more than $15,000 will be offered for study in 2005. Providing half
fees for individual tuition in piano, brass, strings, woodwind, guitar,
percussion and voice, the scholarships will be awarded on the basis of
demonstrated achievement or potential. Students up to and including 18
years of age studying classical or contemporary styles are encouraged
to apply. In addition, the Bill Kell Memorial Scholarship and the Murray
Conservatorium Choir Scholarship will be on offer. These awards provide
full fees for study in voice together with free membership of the Murray
Conservatorium Choir and are open to singers aged between 18 and 25 years.

The residencies
are for a period of six weeks and come with a stipend of $2,000 and a
materials allowance of $300. There are five places available in 2005,
four are reserved for Megalo members and artists from the ACT and a fifth
place is designated for a visiting artist from outside the ACT. The visiting
artist receives an additional $3,000 travel and accommodation allowance.

SEARCH MAP
The
South East Arts Region has released its new SEARCH Map, a guide to the
cultural highlights of the South East. Produced by SEAR and designed by
Jan Mallinson, the map is a 16 page booklet listing the galleries, tudios,
community art centres, exhibition spaces, public art, keeping places,
museums and sites of historical interest in the Bega Valley, Bombala,
Cooma-Monaro, Eurobodalla and Snowy River Shires. In total it features
nearly 200 entries. 20,000 copies have been printed and distributed through
Tourist Information Centres in the region, and section are available for
