Four More Quicks

FOUR additional projects have received Quicks Response Grants ('Quicks') in NSW thanks to a one-off arrangement to make additional funds available this quarter in response to the unprecedented demand for the program.

When the entire Quicks allocation for the April to June quarter was expended in just four days, and with a number of high quality applications still coming in, an exceptional agreement was reach to 'to top' for the program to enable some oustanding opportunities to be provided.

The four extra grants are:

$1336 for Gabrielle Powell (South East) to attend the Beanie Festival and Workshops. The workshops are run by indigenous women of the Desert Weavers group at the Alice Springs Beanie Festival to develop skills in basketry using grasses and natural fibres.
$800 to enable Grafton Regional Gallery (Northern Rivers) to offer a two-week Indigenous Mentorship in Sydney for a selected gallery trainee curator. Aimed at developing an understanding of best practice in working with indigenous artworks and practices, the mentorship involves one week at the Aboriginal Programs division of NSW Art Gallery and one week working with an Indigenous curator at the Campbelltown Arts Centre.
$900 for Rebecca Teakle (Mid North Coast) to attend a Rig (Egyptian tambourine) workshop. The workshop, with visiting artist Jane Elworthy is for women in the isolated area of Kramback and includes the making and playing of the Rig which traditionally was played only by women and had great cultural and religious significance.
$1000 to Berrigan Shire Council (South West) for Drama and Literature for Kids - storywriting and performance workshops by visiting author Kerry Lane to children from the isolated community of Finley.

These projects are an addition to the ten 'Quicks' already funded in the March to June quarter, as previously reported on the Regional Arts NSW website here.

New Quicks applications will be accepted after 1 July.
