Regional Arts Australia National Conference

Regional Arts NSW is delighted to announce a sensational line-up
of keynote speakers for Groundswell,
the 2002 Regional Arts Australia National Conference in Albury Wodonga
this October, including:
- Donald Horne, AO, distinguished Australian social and
cultural commentator, academic and author.
- Robyn Archer, AO, world-renown Australian singer, writer
and director and Artistic Director of the Melbourne International
Festival.
- Helen Gould, founder of the international alliance for
the use of culture and creativity to bring about social and political
change, Creative Exchange (UK).
- Carol Geddes, multi-award winning Teslin Tlingit (first
nation) Canadian documentary filmmaker and Yukon arts and heritage
representative.
- Lyndon Terracini, acclaimed performer of contemporary
opera and music theatre, founder of the NORPA and Artistic Director
of the 2001 Queensland Biennial Festival of Music.
- Terry Cutler, consultant and strategic advisor in information
and communications technology and Chair of the Australia Council
for the Arts.
- Cathy Craigie, writer, dramaturg, playwright and Director
of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Board of the Australia
Council for the Arts.
- Pamille Berg, international lecturer on public art and
architecture, architect and public art program manager.
- Fay Nelson, Australian Aboriginal cultural authority
and leader in Aboriginal arts and cultural policy development
and
- Nell Schofield,
freelance arts reporter and presenter from ABC TV's weekly arts
program, Review, as Groundswell
MC.
Five core themes have been developed
to provide touchstones for sharing, debate and celebration amongst
the expected 450 delegates at this major event:
- Regional Arts Festivals - Reversing
the flow
- Sustaining Regional Arts Practices - Weathering
the storms
- Indigenous Arts and Cultural Practices - The
crossing place
- Social Politics and Regional Culture - Undercurrents
- Regional Regeneration and the Arts - Riding
the rapids
In addition to 14 plenary sessions, Groundswell will offer a total
of 36 parallel options for delegates over the three days. Choose
from discussion forums, showcases, workshops, art clinics and cultural
tours as well as some fantastic social events including Club Swell,
with local music, comedy and live entertainment; open air performances
and an artists' market.

at the largest ever gathering of regional arts practitioners, supporters
and advocates in Australia. Early bird registrations, ranging in
cost from $295 for volunteers to $410 for government employees and
