Sally Branson new RADO for South West
1 October 2002
Sally Branson is the new RADO for South West Arts, based in Hay.
Sally has a great knowledge of, and passion for country communities,
developed from both grass roots and professional experience.
Sally's most recent role was as a regional and rural political
advisor in Victoria and she has held positions on consultation boards
and councils to State and Federal Governments and Oppositions representing
regional interests and focusing on community based strategic planning.
Sally has tertiary qualifications in Art and Art History, Political
Science, Public Affairs, and Sociology. At university she studied
arts and arts management, rural and regional Australian concerns,
and public affairs - with a focus on building social capital.
Sally's arts background developed through community involvement
in the arts and central Victorian arts organisations, including
her role as choir leader of the Bendigo Youth Choir. Her enthusiasm
grew throughout her tertiary education when she was Cultural Convener
for St Hilda's College, and as a result of her professional experience
at the National Gallery of Victoria where she was enlisted into
the 'Top Cats' program.
"I'm very happy to have joined the team of NSW RADOs at
such exciting time for the South West and for the arts in New South
Wales," said Sally.
"I have a firm belief that it is public involvement and
participation which establishes ties in communities. And that's
what will ensure a healthy future for regional Australia. So I'm
delighted to have been appointed as Regional Arts Development Officer
for the South West."
